From LS himself
Bateman's a good player at an awkward price. A genuine second-rower/centre who has played more than a dozen Tests for England, Bateman's been named at lock this week. Last year Ricky Stuart played Josh Papalii at lock for around 65 minutes a game. Papalii averaged 54 in those games, but with a break even of 40 and in his first season in the NRL it's hard to say whether Bateman will average more than 45 – let alone 50. He'll probably be a keeper in the centres in Fantasy by year's end but right now there are safer and better value options out there.
Who is LS?
There are 3 reasons he is at all in consideration for me (wouldn't normally be considered):
1. Want to pick Xerri and loop him, Bateman is the perfect option for maximizing the loop if I decide to do it. Raiders play late in the round often, so can switch him from 2RF to playing reserves and get position 18s score if I want (Garner or Keighran in 18). Can also see 2 other centers play first, Ravalawa and Burns, then have my pick of the 3 scores.
2. Available at Origin 1
3. With him, Holland and Nikora as Centers, should be set for the year in that position.
Finding it hard to make the loop work well without him there. Would be getting him instead of Lane at a similar price point.
