    From LS himself

Bateman's a good player at an awkward price. A genuine second-rower/centre who has played more than a dozen Tests for England, Bateman's been named at lock this week. Last year Ricky Stuart played Josh Papalii at lock for around 65 minutes a game. Papalii averaged 54 in those games, but with a break even of 40 and in his first season in the NRL it's hard to say whether Bateman will average more than 45 – let alone 50. He'll probably be a keeper in the centres in Fantasy by year's end but right now there are safer and better value options out there.

    Who is LS?

There are 3 reasons he is at all in consideration for me (wouldn't normally be considered):
    1. Want to pick Xerri and loop him, Bateman is the perfect option for maximizing the loop if I decide to do it. Raiders play late in the round often, so can switch him from 2RF to playing reserves and get position 18s score if I want (Garner or Keighran in 18). Can also see 2 other centers play first, Ravalawa and Burns, then have my pick of the 3 scores.
    2. Available at Origin 1
    3. With him, Holland and Nikora as Centers, should be set for the year in that position.

Finding it hard to make the loop work well without him there. Would be getting him instead of Lane at a similar price point.

There were reports a few weeks ago of a player push for Brennan to start him.

If he was starting there are a heap of us who would have chucked him straight into our teams. He is good, but Titans have a stacked pack so I don't want to risk it without seeing pack rotation

Its a stacked pack but, but Boyd only averaged 35 minutes last year, while James played some serious mins up front (70avg) and is now on an edge. So there is a chance MoFo can snag 40

Wallace 50mins, Boyd 35-40 which leaves 70-75mins between King and MoFo. If he was a little a cheaper I would take a punt, but I still think he slow burns his way to a 35avg and makes 100k

Remember last year when you picked a non player just for looping and regretted it later? No? Well you did.
To top it off now you're picking not only one non player but another with less upside than other options just for looping. It's nuts and its stuff like this that makes me miss pool hopping talk being taboo.

Is there any scenario where Macca doesn't get 80?

    Can Staggs plays hooker?

Does niko move to hooker and we another shuffle?

I'm trying to talk myself out of Macca

Only injury would do it with the way the bench is now I think. We know Seibold likes an 80 minute hooker

Last season I tried to make looping work at round 2, which didn't work so well as the rest of the squad was already set. This time I am seriously looking at creating a squad that is designed for it. The many low cost / high ceiling CTR/WFBs should make it a viable strategy this season.

You mean Sivo, Rava, Garrick? What makes a player who hasn't played a single NRL game high ceiling?

When everyone else is deciding which guns to bring in with their money in ten rounds time and you’re broke you’ll regret it. It’s crazy talk

How humble will he be when he realises he's the most expensive player in fantasy, but not real life.

I don't have good answers but:

    1. Garrick, he's biggish and 21 so on the way up. Elliott is 25 and never really did any good anywhere.
    2. Hodgson average 77 minutes the last two seasons, I wouldn't expect that to change. Sometimes he shuffles into lock as part of the bench rotation.
    3. Probably, although Dragons fans having been talking up Robson who might get a go there at some stage, possibly with McInnes shuffling to lock like the raiders.
