Went back through my whole season, prior to the 3 times I mentioned on previous page.

There were two other times where I set up for it as insurance, but didn't execute.

-Played Host for 41 and took that (he was starting), loop option was Xerri.. he scored mid 20s
-Played Xerri who scored 59, took that. But my only loop in option was Host, who was benched that week anyway, so no way I would of played him.

Well done mate. Yeah my gut feel is that would be about par for looping benefit.

I think you're right and I think I'm less likely to take a risk in looping where others might push the envelope a bit more - either gaining or losing more. The potential for big gains is there but you're right, I think 80-100 points is about average and personally, I'm not planning for it - I'm only taking the opportunity when I have a red dot that I don't really want.

If you're choosing a red dot, especially early in the season I think that's a big mistake.

No news on this yet but I highly doubt Brown and the Eels fight his charge. They pretty much can't move from 6th spot and they won't want to risk him missing first week of finals which will be an elimination final, so no real point fighting it.

Edit: They took the early plea 2 days ago. Derp.

    Captain choices this week?

Haas v Eels without Brown (62 in 64 minutes in round 14)
Smith v Manly (only scored 55 in round 19 against them in 90 minutes)
Cook v Warriors (86 in 80 minutes in round 5)
McInnes v Tigers (hasn't played Tigers this season)
Taumalolo v Dogs (missed round 7 matchup through injury)
Tedesco v Panthers (57 in 80 minutes in round 13)
Moses v Broncos (71 in 80 minutes in round 14)

I think I'm leaning towards Cook against a poor Warriors team whose season is over.

Anyone else going for someone not mentioned here?

Like mtb, there are several times where I have setup a loop and not used it, because the first player put up a good score
In trying to work out what it has cost/gained me, I am trying to compare the score I achieved vs what I would have scored if I setup my team without a loop available (as much as I can remember what i would have set as my team several months ago)

    R19 CNK (38) over Nikora (37) 1 point gain
    R18 Nikora (75) over Taukeiaho (49) - 26 point gain
    R15 Xerri )25) over Havili (11) - 14 point gain
    R11 Capewell (28) over Sivo (31) - 3 point loss
    R10 Young (42) over Martin (31) - 11 point gain

Biggest cost to my potential scores have been non loop related, and just leaving high scoring players on the bench (Sivo and Xerri mainly)

Just went back and had a look at my looping and it comes out as such:

Rd18: Left Fainu (58) out to loop Burns (56), cost me 2 points

Rd23: Left McInnes (73) out to loop Fifita (72), cost me 1 point compared to not looping, but cost me 22 points compared to leaving Smith (51) out instead of McInnes. At the time I did the loop, Fifita was on 74 though.

    TLDR:  I suck at looping

Interesting there is that you spent most of last weekend talking yourself into Smith as the better option to leave out, only to bail at the last minute and choose McInnes instead

Cook punished me for taking the armband off him last week.

Cook and Haas the best options again imo. Smith could be a good option as well, I don't think his last up score vs Manly matters too much.

McInnes I just think is too risky when their team is in 15th. Tedesco or Moses if you have balls and want to risk it for the biscuit. Taumalolo not the worst choice but carryign injury, always a risk.

If Fifita starts he could be a smokey, but risk of only playing 50 mins.

I see looping as more of an insurance plan against a HIA or sin binning than anything else. More often than not the player I thought would have scored more points has so I haven't actually gained much at all.

Random Monday thoughts.. I wonder what we get from the Knights and Ponga this week. Seems like Brown has offered to walk early, seems like a no brainer really. They've got the Titans who would probably feel like they're a chance of a W, after sticking with Melbourne reasonably well over the weekend.

Imagine if Brown kicked the boot in for Ponga's comments and 'rested' him the last two weeks. haha that would be something.

Generally only use looping for situations like Lolo last week where you don't know if he is going to be on limited minutes or someone is coming back from injury.

Just checked and I actually set it up 11 times (had Sele earlydoors Sleep !!!) so I am full of shit, but only used it twice for a gain of 23 points. All the other times I had the highest scorer in position 18.

Haven't really used it until this year

Here is my loophole performances for the year

    Round 4 Carty(29) over Sivo(24) +5
    Round 5 Carty(41) over Xerri(25) + 16
Round 6 Fifita coming back from injury, insurance policy using loop but would have been in my 17 if loop wasn't an option
    Round 7 Lawrie(41) and CHT(57) over Carty(49) and Sivo(58). If I couldn't loop on form I would have gone CHT + Carty so -9
Round 10 Decided not to take Martin(31) and ended with Capewell(12). Would have been same outcome if no loop
    Round 11 Sivo(31) over Carty(44) - 13
Round 14 Did not take the loop of Havili(39) over Finucane(42). Same outcome if no loop
    Round 22 Staggs(62) over Burns(4) + 58
    Round 23 Lane(52) over Taupau(42) + 10

Overall I'm about 67 points better off. Loop has mainly served me as an insurance policy for injury/HIA rather than a choice between A and B
