Forget the hospitals, if the NRL season is suspended I’m worried the jails won’t be able to cope

The NRL pays them. If the NRL makes the call to play in empty stadiums then what say do the players have?
What's a contract worth these days, a wad of toilet paper ? Oh wait......

Maybe they feel safer having it postponed altogether and that is just there way of expressing that.
If they do postpone the season however - will teams still train, or otherwise hang out with each other?

The annoying thing is going to be that if a bunch of stuff gets cancelled, and then things aren't too bad, lots of people will say "See - we overrracted" rather than think "It was because of the reaction that things didn't get too bad"
Happened with Y2K. The reason it wasn't a problem was because people put a lot of effort into making sure it wasn't a problem, and now everyone thinks it was a hoax. It didn't help that some idiots thought that toasters would stop working and planes would fall out of the sky (the equivalent of people buying 2 years supply of toilet paper all at once)
But there were a lot of serious problems that only got fixed because people put effort in.
i think by the end of the month, Australia is more likely than not to have restrictions similar to Italy. No mass gatherings of people, cut out non-essential travel.
Yeah, I know a number of people, including Mrs Bacca, who have low immunity and are at risk. Caution is needed, but overreaction isn't necessary. Healthy people have no need to panic, but they do need help reduce the risk for those around them. A “she'll be right mate" attitude isn't helpful

Even worse, if they suspend the rounds and the AFL continues, it will be their worst nightmare as their audiences tune in to the rival code out of a need for a gap fill sport. Massive consequences for RL as a game.
NRL and AFL also are in the process of their next TV rights deal negotiations, and I heard that with the general downturn in broadcast media since the last deal the AFL is looking at trying to get an extension at current terms rather than risk seeing a reduced new deal. NRL aren't in as strong a financial position as AFL either.

Yeah it was Italy. It was like a line of people a meter apart that stretched a looooong way, waiting to get in (iirc they have limits on the number allowed inside at any one time, so you're waiting for people to finish their entire shop, not sure why it's not click and collect or something, oldies I guess)Revraiser wrote:

If they postpone it would they still have the 25 rounds? Would Magic Round still go ahead? Would Origin go ahead/be pushed back?
I have spent a fair bit of cash for Magic Round, hope I get my money back.

On the other NRL news of the last week - I just read that Rashays (the restaurant chain that pulled out of a major sponsor deal with the Bulldogs) has said that they will continue with the deal IF the dogs sack both Okanbur and CHN.
So in terms of Stimson job security, that's probably a $2million question answered.

I think it is inevitable that we will not see a round 2 of Football. They say that April-May will be peak Coronavirus in Australia and it won't settle down until late June. We could be waiting until at least July, meaning NRL will either be cancelled or will be played right through until Christmas.

I heard on the news this morning that a local construction company just pulled out of a sponsorship deal with them as well.

I think they'd just pick up from the existing draw when they're ok to go ahead? gotta be real difficult to reschedule everything and/or push back into the hotter months. Then you have issue of ground availability, and other things. Player contracts end/rollover at end of October/etc.

To be fair - Italy has some of the worst / least efficient beauracracy in the world. If a country is going to mismanage a public health crisis, they're right up the top of the list.

Nice work Mr Sweethearts! I hope he goes large for you.
Also, as someone who spends most of my time lurking, have to reveal that you are by far and away my favourite poster on here. I absolutely love your quirky style. When you started busting out the Marley renditions, I was a gonner!
I've also been super keen on Jahrome Hughes the whole preseason, but I'm bitterly disappointed that at the final call I can't justify a place for him. I wish I'd gone with him ahead of JMK. I'm sure he'll find a way into my team sooner or later.
Anyway, I've gotta hit the hay. Good luck for the rest of the round, and for the season ahead! And remember, if anyone starts giving you trouble for your unique take on things, there's a mostly invisible Kiwi in Moscow who's got your back!
Peace
D

This is true. I think if it were to extend into July, would they really only play 12 weeks of football?

Its really just speculation, but it depends how long they think they need to suspend for. They'd obviously like to have a competition of some sort.
Hopefully a slightly shortened competition is feasible. Anything we say now is just guessing though
For magic round/etc refunds, it depends on your travel insurance, and when you bought your flights/accom/everything. If you bought everything after the outbreak was known, may be tough luck
If the event is cancelled you should at least get the cost of match tickets refunded

As always round 1 panic sets in after a few interesting scores
The only reasons I will trade someone out after round 1 are injury, long term suspension or change in role. I saw exactly what I wanted from Stimson(starting second rower, big minutes on the edge and solid defensively) and Moses(dominant half controlling all the kicking). If you picked these players expecting anything different I can't help your expectations. Stay the course, trust your research and don't panic
On a semi related note Bankwest is still super dewy for night games, I'll continue backing the under for points scored all year
