Apart from "don't bother us" whatever advice can you give an absolute beginner?

Re: FPL 2020/21
OK, I have decided to try this year, but I know absolutely nothing. Could someone tell me where to find final teams each round? Is there a thing like TLT? Or am I supposed to know because teams don't change?

There is no TLT.
There is final team lists just before kick off and that is it. No rolling lockout so you just have to be prepared for your player not to play.
A lot of guesswork as to who will get rotated and when. Certain players will play every week. But a lot will get rested at times, especially for the big teams who play in European competitions as well. You may or may not know about it beforehand.

Most of us aren't world-beaters
Final teams are really different to NRL as the deadline locks 90 mins before first game now which is actually before the first team comes out so if you don't pick players with guaranteed spots you can be caught out. The actual teams are only really posted on the EPL team's twitter/website or if you use 3rd party forums (Reddit FantasyPL) they are posted there
I'd definitely take look through rules as it's a very different game to NRL Fantasy and maybe watch the first episode of FPL show on PL website as it goes through a lot of the basics. Main basics are 1 transfer a week (-4 points for every transfer over this) and then the special chips
Wildcard - unlimited permanent transfers for 1 week twice a season
Free Hit - unlimited transfers for 1 week and then reverts to previous week's team
Triple Captain - exactly what it sounds like. Utterly useless
Bench Boost - bench scores count to team total for 1 week
Also this season is very different as 4 teams had blank (didn't play) so later in season they have 2 games in 1 gameweek so you get 2 chances of points. This usually happens late in the season with cup competitions though

Re: FPL 2020/21
I think the other thing to know as a beginner is the very basics on trades.
Trades
- 1 per week, if you don't use it you get 2 the next week. You can't stockpile more than 2 for a GW. Extra trades above your allotted amount cost 4 points, which can be a reasonable thing to do sometimes.
- trades can't be reversed. Some ppl try and trade early in the week to avoid price changes, I think it's better to leave it as late as you can and wear a 0.1 or 0.2m swing
- if I player you own starts at 7m, and their price goes to 7.4m, you only get half the value i.e. can sell at 7.2m. Important for planning.
- look ahead to the draw - some gameweeks will have less games due to FA cup, then others will have more due to those matches being rescheduled.
- some of the scout articles on the EPL website are useful without having to get too far into the research
Honestly though, a lot of it is guessing.
I've had a great 1st week and still got done over taking a risk on Pulisic being ok to play based on hints from media articles

Thanks everyone! I feel better now I know guessing is normal. I was worried I only score 52 pts, compared to SC that is dreadful, but seems OK now

Re: FPL 2020/21
Captain Salah saved what would have been a pretty average start otherwise.

For round 1 the biggest difference will be whether you captained Salah or not (sadly for me, I went Aubameyang)
Nothing wrong with 52, as long as your team is OK - people are getting game tiem and have the ability to score points.
Noone here will be challenging for 1st spot, so we're just out for mini-league glory and doing the best we can.

Re: FPL 2020/21
Because prices change every day, there's not really any functionality to reverse trades
If you have played your wildcard, you can trade someone out and back in again as many times as you want though

I force myself to start with at least one Everton player every year. It’s worked great this time.

Re: FPL 2020/21
Hey Ho, woeful start to the year from the Aardvarks. Failed to field a full 11 for the last two weeks but loath to play a wildcard until the transfer window shuts.
DCL has been a great pick up, thought he might get better service this year and he is a bandit for a 1 metre goal.
