Mr Snrub wrote:He was certainly worth the price tag last year but is there any like rumblings that Walters might want to reduce his minutes. Actually he'd probably score just as well if not better with a 20 minute rest so maybe he's just a no-brainer Day 1 pick.

Trying to catch up, but what has been the Forum consensus on potentially wasting an 18-21 spot on Simpkin if having Liddle in your 17?

My initial thoughts are that I won't pick anyone over $900k (Cleary, McInnes, Haas)
They all had so much go right for them last year, that I don't think they are likely to sustain it.
I guess if you think that those 3 will maintain their 70+ average, and that everyone else will be in the 60s, then it would make sense to get 1 of them as captain.
Bit given they are all $100k more than the next tier of players, i think that money can be put to better use. Someone like Cook or Lolo as captain for me.
Other plans to save trades, want to get a bunch of non origin keepers that I can keep in my team all year. Tried that last year but origin byes didn't happen, and they all got injured anyway. but don't want too many origin guns in my team.

I also would ideally only want a couple of Origin players, but the reality is there are only two non-Origin guys in the top ten scorers from last year (McInnis and Taumalolo) and not many more in the top twenty.
So what do you do... go without for two thirds of the season? Strategy is to have enough trades to trade a Cook or Teddy out then back in over the period where they don't just miss the two byes but also likely to get another week's rest. Easier said than done and only good for a limited amount of players.

Just on tedesco.
He averaged 63.4 last year
2nd best WFB average was Staines with 62.5 in 1 and a half games
3rd best was Ponga with 60 (and who misses the first X weeks due to injury)
4th best was Brimson with 51.3
So basically Teddy is a clear 10+ points better than the next best WFB you can start with
Even if Teddy misses 3 games more than Brimson (or whichever 50 point scorer you choose) he'll still outscore him by 100 points over the course of the season.

But Teddy starts the season slow! (Averaged over 70 in the first four games last year)

I still haven't made a squad but I'm thinking about trying to fit Teddy in (dont think I've ever started with him). It is looking like tehre are enough cheap options out there to do it.

His 2020 stats are very good. But his 2019 stats are about what he is priced at.
The new rules in 2020 obviously gave him a boost that should be sustainable, so he is on the radar, but not a certainty

Averaged 51.2 over 61.6 minutes a game before getting injured last year. Priced at 39 so potential is there.
His 2019 stats at lock over 50 minutes was 49.1 at over 67.3 minutes a game (I believe some of these were also spent at hooker to give Friend a rest).
Seems pretty well under priced by about 10 points based on his stats. Has a great base in metres gaines, TB's and tackles and before his injury last year Robbo had him playing as a third ball player. Bit of an awkward price.
Massive mind blank but who is he replacing at lock and does Butcher steal minutes from him?
I may have talked myself into it.
Fortitude wrote:is the thought process with CHN, priced at 23 hoping he gets more than up to 50mins where he averages 24.5? I mean, im reasonably confident he makes the 17. I dont see him playing the 80min role he did at the dogs. Any more then 50mins is ambitious.
