Forget the terrible PR of Folau, who says he’s actually going to be good

McInnes/Folau 1-2 punch combo over my lunch break was something.
I support the Newtown Jets now lol.
As unsavory as I find Folau’s personal views, he’s entitled to play if he can keep them personal I guess. But I don’t see the value in signing a player who last played NRL in 2010.
Meanwhile we losing Frizell, and now are losing McInnes

I back Folau in that he’s entitled to express what he believes in. He’s trying to share the word of God, nothing wrong with that.StormTrooper96 wrote:Don't wanna start a rant but a bloke can follow his ex to America and beat a bloke senseless in a pub, but he is alright to play footy... He is an avid member of his church and gives regular sermons (whatever theyre called). So why can't he play?
His post that started this shit is all pretty much right there in the bible... just over a couple thousand pages.

For me, the key difference is the majority of those players have admitted guilt or paid their penance.
Folau has refused to do so and even after getting a clause in his ARU contract to stop him continuing to do it, he continued to do it.
Pearce although clearly a repeat offender at least gives the PR of "I'm sorry, I know what I did was wrong" whereas Folau dug his heels in and took his lawyers against his former employer in Australia.
You're right in that we allow the likes of Packer, Ferguson, Lodge etc back in... I'm all for giving people a second chance but I can understand why people would not want to, particularly due to the amount of players who seem to take that second chance and walk straight down the same path.
Packer, Lodge etc have turned their lives around and now mentor youth, hell Lodge even stopped a woman from being attacked the other day so the opportunity for rehabilitation is definitely there.
If Folau came out and said what he said was wrong and showed understanding of how he hurt people then I would 100% be for welcoming him back into the code.
That's how I see it.
How the NRL sees it is probably quite different. I wonder what the legal stand point is for refusing him a contract.

Let's just remember it's his version of the word of God and that there are anti-discrimination laws in Australia.

I can't imagine what the Dragons are thinking pulling a stunt like this on the back of losing Friz last year and Mcinnes this year, it's like they don't want fans.

If I run with one of the "big 3" it will likely be Cleary. Agree that Haas probably won't maintain his average without an increase in attacking stats and the Dragons seem to be doing everything they can to piss of McInnes. The difference between Cleary at 70(140) and Cook at 64(128) can really add up over the first 10 weeks. If that is worth the extra ~100k we will have to wait and see
heard matterson say no-way carrigan/haas going to be 80min players this year

Man, this is the biggest minefield. No clear cut answer. What ever choice the NRL makes will have it supporters and its nay sayers. I dont envy the person having to brief PVL and i dont pity the person making the final call.
Side note, everytime we go into the arguement of people getting away with shit, i get annoyed that Inglis is left off the list.

Having spent many years advising on Discrimination Act in Canberra, the Laws are more likely to work in his favour then anyone elses.
Cant deny working opportunities on the bases of ones religious views which includes both having them and practicing them.

Your post assumes he was guilty of something, that he was required to pay penance, that he is required to apologise. Unlike all the others he's done nothing illegal or liable otherwise the police would have brought charges. He broke a clause in a contract like 1000 footballers before him. The difference is all the others broke the law. At least he didn't blame mental health like most of them and stood by his beliefs. Folau expressed his democratic right to free speech within the legal parameters set out. It's hard to even argue his comments are unpopular when barely over 50% of people in this country supported gay marriage.

Loosing Friz is huge, and is getting lost in all the rest of the craziness happening at the dragons.

Um not it’s not pretty much what he said is in the bible. So I wouldn’t say it’s his words.filthridden wrote:

Nothing wrong with it. You see mormons all the time pushing their beliefs on public transport etc....l they go around door knocking I respect that even though I don’t believe in it.
People should be able to stand up and voice what they believe in it’s not terrorism.....
I don’t go to church but I believe in God and Folau is just expressing his beliefs and faith. Yet we let people who actually do bad shit keep gettin chance after chance.
Folau believes he is being a disciple or messenger of God, he shouldn’t have to apologise for that and spreading word.
I hope he gets to play for the Dragons and I hope he kills it.

On another side note, if someone kicks the ball into the in-goal, it's regathered by the opposition but they are tackled in the in-goal, who gets the Forced Drop Out points? The tacklers, kicker or both?
