Updates on Averillo and JMK injuries - Averillo in doubt for round 1, JMK expected to be ok for round 1, but out of this weeks trial.
Keary is injured for this trial, so we will see Sam Walker. Keary will be playing at halfback, rather than at 6. Over his career he has averaged 120 more kicking meters per game when named at halfback.
On the potential $228k cheapie winger at the storm:
Ieremia has won the wing position for this trial game, but Ponissi said the race to fill the departed Suliasi Vunivalu’s vacant wing spot was still up for grabs.
“The right wing is without a shadow of a doubt the most competitive position in the team,” he said.
“There are four playing vying for it along with Dean.
“There’s Isaac Lumelume and George Jennings and Reimis Smith, who are going to put their hands up as well.
“Dean has just edged his nose in front of the others for this game, but there’s nothing in it and it’s extremely competitive for Round 1.”
Interesting that the rookie has outshone the guys with more experience. Definitely one to watch.

On the knights:
After signing multiple players mid season last year to ensure Randall doesn’t get game time, I don’t think he’s going to get much game time with a fully fit squad.
I’d love to see young take Tuala’s centre spot by the end of the season. Sooner the better. A lean Jamal idris. Will be straight into my team if he has any job security
Hard to say on minutes but I think we will have a big minute starting park. Mann off the bench as utility and to spell Watson in the mobile lock/attacking spark role. He’s great for that role for us.
Problem for those picking klemmer or DSaf is jacob’s form back half of last year deserving more minutes. The likes of sue, king, saulo will likely be 20ish minute players for us while the rest of the front row minutes go to the other 3. I’d even expect fitzgibbon off the bench into 2nd row and Barnett into the front before those guys get extra minutes
Word at the club on ponga is still round 4 but I’ll try and chase that up before the season starts
