If Twal is guaranteed those huge minutes I’ll be all over him as previously stated. I’m also semi interested in Offa but at similar price points I prefer LodgeMulvy wrote:
That's how it looks to me. I actually agree with Matt, Twal looks set to be the big minute middle, Tamou and Offa in prop rotation. Might come down to whether the bench utility plays hooker/edge or spells lock.

Musgrove might be ahead of Packer? Or no? EDIT I see he is suspended rnd 1
Looks a very heavy bench and would sort of put me off Twal. Will be interesting to see if Simpkin and Liddle spend time on the field together again this week.

Wayne up to his games again, Arrow for the first time since he’s been with us trained at left edge yesterday, it could ring alarm bells for Koloamatangi BUGGER!!
I don’t like it as I think Arrow is purely a middle!

I don't know if you're gonna get a guarantee before rd1 mate, trial might help, but could be a gut call type of thing.

They've also got Seyfarth who might grab a bench spot. Chee-Kam could get an edge/utility spot, although perhaps Simpkins has overtaken him for that role.
I am not sure they'd go with all 3 of Simpkin/Simpkins/Utoikamanu on the bench in round 1 as that is quite inexperienced, but you never know.
Utoikamanu didn't get much of a run last year, was that because he had already signed with the Tigers, or because they didn't think he was good enough?

Exactly, there is no way you'll know from the trial and week 1 team lists how things are going to go, especially you won't know if they'll still be doing the same thing in round 5. Certainly not with any 'guarantee'

Also re: Twal you’ve gotta be considering the whole year.
I have no doubts that at times he’ll be playing <80 mins but provided he stays fit, he’s going to be a very consistent member of their team, and hence big reliable minutes should follow. I’m not sure if he’ll end up as a top 5 MID at the end of the year, but he’s certainly going to be 50+ assuming he stays fit.
I just can’t find many more reliable MIDs, especially when a lot of coaches will be using Harris/Crichton as an EDGE.

My team is getting very Mid/Edge heavy. Feels like the old Dreamteam days.
Currently got Crichton, Tauk, JFH, Dfifi and Ford starting, then BMM, Riki, Watson and (for what he's worth) Stimson on the bench.

Ramsey firming for a wing spot isn’t he, probably after to wait until he wrestles the fullback role from Dufty

Interesting to see the Cowboys have updated their trial squad to use 21. Reuben Cotter as a small Lock to start (Lolo into the front row).
Not sure there's much in it other than trying options (it sounded like Gilbert might've been used as a bit of a small lock prior to his injury)

Lachlan Croker has broken down at training with a hammy injury.

Willing to bet that the top averaging pure middles this year are still Taumalolo and Haas. They're slightly overpriced so won't be in starting teams, but you'll want them at some point.

McLean and McGuire both out at the moment too, so I am not sure Taumalolo will even drop minutes/price to start the year

Looking at the bench last season for the rounds that Twal was getting huge minutes:Milchcow wrote:
I had read that Garner was training at lock. Its possible that was true but Blore injury has forced him back to the edge
Simpkin, Packer, Mikaele, Utoikamanu would be the bench I'd expect, and as mtb said, Simpkin might play some lock with Liddle at hooker.
Am warming on Twal if that is how they go into round 1.
He's cheaper than Tohu/Crichton and doesn't play origin, although lacks DPP.
Round 3 - 80 minutes - Walters, Clark, Seyfarth, Lawrence
Round 4 - 76 minutes - Walters, Clark, Seyfarth, Lawrence
Round 5 - 80 minutes - Mikaele, Packer, Chee Kam, Seyfarth
When there was a hooker on the bench he was getting huge minutes and even with 3 MIDs and an EDG in round 5 he was still getting 80. Similar again this season for bench composition, with over the hill guys like Packer, low minute guys like Musgrove and young inexperienced guys.

From the Cowboys today:
McLean is expected to be fit for the club's season opener against the Penrith Panthers on March 13

Apparently in yesterday’s training session Cook’s passing with a bit off and Benji played some hooker and his passes were all on the money.
Apparently as well Benji is getting some time at hooker tomorrow.
Could we see Wayne at times pull Cookie off at the 65mins mark?
