Re: LORD of the BYES
Score 812 gained 2.3k ranks sitting at 694 now I am going to focus on getting chn and any other round 17 that jumps in price drastically and just play damage control for the next few rounds get 2 in round 16 and max trade on 17 with round 17 keepers in mind and then damage control till the end again one thing I learned this buy don't bring in people so far ahead of time to avoid the being injured or suspended

Re: LORD of the BYES
Pretty happy with 890....47th for the round and up to 39th overall from 565 last week. There aren't many trades I'm looking at doing for rd 17 to be honest.....there's only 3 or 4 keepers worth having for the rest of the season...

While these gains might be temporary it seems like the strategy has worked with majority of us gaining traction or within the top 999 , with round 17 options looking scarce and the one thing I noticed was people having 6 - 10 of the right players were still gaining ranks or holding there current rank it may only take 3-4 to maintain your rank in round 17

LORD of the BYES - Round 13 Results
Below is a quick summary of the top 20 players this round.
You can of course see the full table in the Fantasy League section at NRL.com (or on the App).
Congratulations to TheWeapon with a massive 894 points, rising to first in the FOG overall league (and up to 40th overall).
Bye rounds are a great opportunity to make some big changes to your rank.
The biggest mover here was Revraiser, up an incredible 7,327 spots.
The top 20 movers:
Finally, just some overall stats based on the round averages for players in this comp.
Quality is generally as important as quantity in the bye-rounds.
All entrants managed to put a team averaging 40 or more (ideally a 50 average with as many players as you can manage was the big ticket to rapid gains).
Well done to Teeth Eater who while fielding just 9 players, managed an average of 57.5 across them.
Teeth racked up more points than some teams fielding 11 or 12 players and also outscored CK by 155 points (who fielded 9 players as well).
Total points and averages based on number of players:

As long as your "bye-friendly" team isn't to the detriment of standard rounds, then the gains should be relatively permanent.
Of course, it's all reliant on you having enough trades still for the run home - that's the rub.
If the quality (high-average) is up, then you can generally afford to have a few less players.
It's one of the reasons why serial bye-round movers tend to focus on a very solid platform of players with a high average and high floor (typically HOK, MID, EDG), and largely avoid making bye-focused moves around much more variable players like Wingers, Centres and Bench-players.
That being said, a good cash-out Wing/Centre with a friendly match-up could give you a real bye-round boost.

Great analysis thanks Easytiger. And thanks for organising it.easytiger wrote:LORD of the BYES - Round 13 Results

I was chuffed to improve my rank by 83% (from 925th to 155th) but I reckon The Weapon must have done even better. Any chance of a table of the top relative rank improvers?

Thanks, and yes - I can do that.
Here's a table of the top relative rank improvers (and their current rank).
Essentially, what percentage of the teams ahead of you that you managed to overtake.

Re: LORD of the BYES
Great work easytiger!
I was happy with my rank gain, but a bit disappointed with the round result.
The majority of my players had a subpar performance and the team overall didn't live up to their potential.
The guy in first only had 12 on the field but that included most of the round top-scorers. He traded in Bhunt, BSmith, Kelly and Peachey... that's the kind of luck you need to win this comp

Re: LORD of the BYES
Thanks Guys!!
I went pretty aggressive in the 5 or so rounds up to rd 13, making sure I had the top scoring players / keepers who were playing (as I realised the options for round 17 are really slim).
The only worthwhile players I see for rd 17 are Harris, L.Thompson, CHN, and Walsh (and at a stretch, Nikorima, Reynolds, Jackson, Ramien, Taupau, RTS and one or two others).... I feel the big movers for rd17 may be breaking their teams for the run home (unless they have a lot of trades left...)

Cool. Thanks. Good to see 5 coaches propelling themselves into the top 500 and another 4 into the top 1000. Maybe we should reach out to Lone Scout to offer him a few tips about managing the bye rounds.

Thanks Chewie.
Yeah, I think you and I had a similar round - not unhappy, but having setup an opportunity to do so much better it just came off a bit underwhelmed.
If my team had even just hit their averages I should've snuck into the top 200.
Next year I need to focus on the key skill of having more good luck.

Re: LORD of the BYES
That table where I came 20th in rank rises with 14 players showed I have the mentality of numbers making up the points as opposed to quality which is disappointing and hopefully something I can rectify for 17. Saying that had some bad luck with Moses, IPap, Fog etc.

Thanks mate, really appreciate all the effort.
Yeah, gotta say I was pretty happy with how the round went down, considering the amount of players I fielded. I think not owning Hynes actually benefitted me as it allowed me to put the C on Matterson, thinking he'd bounce back (If I'd had Hynes I'd have 100% definitely put it on him) and that worked out very well for me in the round.
It's been a turbulent year and only the second year I've had a FOG team (as well as my primary interest, being my H2H team). Not sure if I'll do the two teams next year or just turn my H2H team into my FOG team by default. If I did the FOG thing seriously again I'd have to put more thought and effort into the byes, but by nature I seem to hold onto stuff (got a shed full of videos, magazines, cards, comics etc. from when I was a kid - slowly starting to sell them now) - but I've noticed a parallel with Fantasy and I can't dump players I deem keepers. Just really struggle doing it, much to my detriment. It's left me sitting with a squad this week that could be single digits in number again, if a lot of the dudes don't back up from Origin.
Yep, been an interesting year with still a lot to play out. Funnily enough, my players average 57.5 in a bye round in my H2H comp, when the week before I think they must have averaged somewhere in the 30's for the biggest belting I've had all year. I remember a similar thing happening in 2019 with the byes too. Painful.
Anyway, sorry for the novel - thanks again, Easytiger.
