I’ve been as frustrated as any with the Tigers recruitment paying overs for Mbye, Packer etc etc.  Must say that Mbye seems like a pretty decent dude.  Article in SMH quoting him saying, among other things, stuff like:

    > I know I haven’t lived up to the huge pay packet.  I feel I’ve been a burden.
    > I don’t want to be a burden and would rather let madge build the team he wants / needs
    > The team is building really good things.  While haven’t got a big name, everything else is being put into place.  Just be patient.
    > Honestly, some frustration have boiled over but madge and Hartigan are doing a great job to set up for long term success.
    > Proud to have played for club.  Came here to be part of team ti turn club around.  Sad not to achieve that.

    So with my two trades..

    Thinking the following

CHN -> Blore (I need an Edge. Or any edge/mid/ctr under $585k)
Gamble -> Doueihi (Cant ignore him, and covers Averillo who can be looped, and means Bird can goto EDG next week if Avo is back.)

Will leave me with $271k, and a trade on the bank.

With Savage, Averillo and too an extent Watson my only real issues for the year.

I genuinely do think he seems like a good fella.

    But, the whole I haven't lived up to my huge pay packet and I don't want to be a burden should be taken in the context of;
    - yeah, I'll still get paid my full pay packet this year thanks very much.
    - I'll leave the club a year early, so long as you still pay me nearly half a million to play for someone else - so that I still get my huge salary - and it will still come out of your salary cap, so yeah, I'm still going to be a bit of a burden next year, sorry about that. Plus I now have more JS going forwards

He ain't forgoing jack shit despite him feeling bad about it - and maybe he shouldn't, but you have to wonder how sincere the "sorry you paid me so much" really is

Now I get what you are saying, but shit if I was underperforming at work and got moved on so to speak, id still expect my annual leave and any other guaranteed money. Shit I would still feel genuinely bad about the situation, but no one in there right mind would be like.. nah dont pay me.

Haha yeah I found it funny that he doesn't want to be a burden anymore, but still will be for next year.

Just like the players should see out their contracts - Matterson, Moses, that other forgettable loser that went to Manly, the clubs should pay out the contracts they signed.

It's been a one way street for us so far though.

Team is absolutely cooked now after losing Matto, Lolo and Crichton. I'm playing Hamlin Uele (a desperation cashout to get Cleary in) at MID for the next 3 weeks. Other than him it's a pretty solid unit though.

    Cook
    BHE, Haas, Watto
    Fifita, Jackson
    Cleary, DCE
    Bird, Ramien
    Ponga, Teddy, Turbo

    Moses, Brailey, Fogarty, Walsh
    Verrills, Matto, Gamble, Chambers

My rabble of a club pay more than that just to offload their dud buys that have under performed / been ruined.

I'll take him for 10 years at that price

For $400k what would you rather do?

Pay Moses Mbye to play for someone else
Pay Connor Watson to play for, with money left over.

But that is one reason why clubs like the Tigers can't get out of the shithouse. There is a 0% chance of someone like Connor Watson ever accepting a $300k deal to play for us
Our only options are to pay massive overs for has-beens, or buy young guys and hope they turn out good. Guys like Laurie and Utoikamanu are looking like better options than Packer/Mbye

Agreed, hopefully tigers can learn from picking up uto and Laurie. Do you know how long the tigers have to get all the shit signings off their books. Hopefully soon they have proper money to play with and spend it on youth not Hail Marys.

On mbye, was he ever going to be good? I don’t remember how that was received by tigers fans

    Couple of questions for you lot to keep some conversation going;

    1. Is it worth sacrificing cover to loop an option you're not that confident in. Eg, starting Hynes (who is my only WFB cover) to shift Manu to centre to bench and loop Burton?

    2. 1 trade left but 18 green dots and Lolo. Worth using it for something like Crichton to Doueihi? Would also make question 1 invalid.

Tossing up similar thoughts on question 2.

With one trade left, it’s looking thin. I have good cover in terms of green dots, but a bench of rapana, Verrils, Burton, hynes. Red dots for this week are cheese, tolo, CHN, angus.

Angus is two weeks away, CHN is gone, cheese will be back next week surely and maybe tolo. So I have options going forward to cover injuries. So getting a better player now, at the expense of CHN or Angus is tempting.

In your case, I’d probably do it. Two reasons, he is the form scorer and can likely give you 3 lots of a score that you’re holding Angus to give you one. Second, you keep non touch with those that do have him. This all depends on how your coverage in other positions is. If it’s strong, lock it in. If it sucks, I’d be careful.

Is it worth being in Curran for CHN, if it’s my last trade. Here is my 21

    Cook
    Haas, papali, afb
    Murray, Fifita
    Dce, Moses
    Bird, avo
    Turbo, teddy, Walsh

    Rapana, Burton, Verrils, hynes

    Tolo, CHN, angus, cheese.

If I do CHN to Curran. It gives me an 18th green dot with no obvious person to shift to the pine. If I don’t make the trade this week and Curran scores more than 35, I won’t be able to afford him next week.

Community Team wrestling with similar dilemma (https://www.nrlfantasyfanatics.com/t1747-rd-23-discussion#557120).

Personally, I think if you can engineer the depth to cover each position any given injury/suspension/resting (which it looks like you've got, Fortitude), then its worth pulling the trigger this week on your last trade.

What's the rest of your team looking like, Wolfie?
