I’m trying to be cute and find a non Cleary team I like enough to not be dumb and go against the grain again. Sexton is someone who can potentially elevate to Half gun who has shown in limited games granted, he can score well without huge attacking stats. I might just run him over Hynes, and keep Cleary

I've got Cleary, Sexton and Hynes in the team.
I expect both Sexton and Hynes to kick on from last year, and don't want to start without them in the team.
I'll start with DCE if Cleary isn't ready, but will swap him back to Cleary when lines up again.

How many players will you be picking that have about a month of job security (this isn't directed specifically at mattnz, more of a general question)

Wilton, Bullemor, Lawton, Liddle replacement, possibly Kobe Hetherington

Last thing needed is 3 rounds into the comp having a bunch of guys become trade outs at once (especially if you also have to deal with injuries to your other starters too)

Wilton does look tempting if he got a long term starter role, but its a bit risky.

Other than probably Bullemor I don't think I'll be getting anyone without long term job prospects

I've had no time to do any research this season, haven't watched any trials, haven't kept up with the forum. This is my team based on half an hour's scanning this morning - probably won't touch it until TLT now:

    Randall
    Haas Uto Cotter
    E Katoa Fermor
    Cleary Mann
    Aitken Tago
    Pappy Hynes Coates

    Hetherington, S Crichton, Bullemore, Ilias
    Fifita, Moeroa, Russell, Berrell

Nah, Graham is going to be out again in no time, next HIA will likely be his last. Wilton has gun potential on an edge for $484k. Great base stats, averaging about 50 in base alone.

I'm grabbing him now, to get great value to start the season, you can consider him at a higher price, when Graham is out longer term.

Even if Graham comes back for a month and then is out for a month again, are you happy for Wilton to lose all the cash he's made over that four weeks?
Baking on players getting injured is not a sustainable strategy in this game.

If he is only going to make say 80k why not save a trade and start with a mid 500k player. If he makes 80 k then Graham comes back won’t he fast lose any gains when he goes back to the bench?

Thank you to @NoWorries and the other Mods (@standardissue league 4 organisor) that have put lots of time and effort into putting together the leagues again this year.

I am getting excited to back at it again. Wife is not.

Same here, the only one of those guys I have is Bully, and that's mostly because he's available at MID. Wilton would be in my team if he was a bit cheaper, but he's too expensive to make much money and not a keeper either unless Graham were to retire.

Mid tier players will get you nowhere, especially starting with them, as the guys going from mid to gun will show themselves in the first few weeks (e.g. Ipap last year)

    My current team is:

    Randall
    Uto Mann JTB
    Fifita Fermor
    Cleary Sexton
    Burton Tago
    Papenhuyzen Hynes Crichton

    Ilias Nanai Amone Tuilagi
    Mam Moale Fifita Tass

    18k ITB

like the starting 17 but will probably have to cut back on cash somewhere to beef up my 18-21

I would downgrade Mann to Josh King, then use the money fixing your 18-21.

Also I may be biased because I've got a very heavy "guns and cows" team (Haas, Angus, Fifita, Cleary, Papy, Teddy, and 15x <350k players) but I would be dropping Burton down to Penisini, then use that money to upgrade Uto to a gun forward.

What are you expecting from JTB mate? I would be keen but pretty worried about his minutes

He has just sat in my team for a while. After him starting in the trial and Payten saying he sees him as a big minute forward. I see him starting prop and getting at least 50 minutes

I like it - especially your back 3.
I'm selecting either Pappy or Hynes, can't afford both.
Only question - and it could be a silly miss - but do you have a back-up Hooker?

Along this line of thinking Milchcow - I'm looking at Tuilagi as a reserve Edge.
Who is he replacing and how many weeks does he have?
Trap-cow much or is he going to get the games to be a genuine cow?
    Cheers,

Jamal Fogarty will miss the start of the 2022 season after scans revealed an injury to his knee following last week's trial against the Sea Eagles.
The injury will most likely require surgery and comes with a recovery time of around four months.
