But there is also a bit of a precedent for gun halves that don't kick on - the players that have the high footy IQ early but then can't step up when the players are bigger and faster in the higher grade. Then their contemporaries catch up on the footy side.
Beau Henry was U20s player of the year for the Dragons. He's been playing the third tier of footy in NSW since his mid-20s. A lot of other gun halves at age group have struggled to kick on too. Elgey and Ash Taylor were player of the year as well.
Beau Henry had his knee destroyed by a cannon ball tackle, unfair to include that poor dude. Definitely agree re Elgey and Taylor, they definitely haven't kicked on. Elgey's knee certainly took care of that, he never regained his confidence and eventually fell out of love for the game. I personally don't think Cliffords a gun half or anything, I just took exception to him labelled shit and would feel the same about Elgey and Taylor tbh. All three had/have undeniable talent
