Still need all of those to improve though or at least most of them, otherwise you are stuck with mid Rangers...I hope not though because I have a few of them haha
Yep, in my mind it makes sense, but I am probably overlooking something. Most of you guys on here would be banking for CLaw, Aubbs, Carty, LAM, BLaw, Grant, Rochow to improve on their scores to at least gain 50-70k. If the cash cows can net about 100k each (tough ask, but with jniko, feeney, ATaylor hopefully getting 150k to offset Eden, Mitchell, Guth, and who ever else will be this years Nabuli), with that cash it hopefully gives me enough to get the midrangers up to 500k guns.
At the end of the day, I want every player besides captain to average 42-45 points a game, this gives me 792-840 points, team current average is 718. So each player on average needs to improve by 5 points, some wont but shouldn't drop much and some will get more than 5, but if as a group they do then team value will increase allowing for the upgrades using cash cow nprs.
But again I am sure I have overlooked something which will shoot down this strategy.

I'll say this though, the amount of fantasy knowledge you seem to have picked in the space of a year is amazing. Last year was your first wasn't it?
Yeah mate first year. Made a lot of silly trades but will learn from it this year. Cheers though

I started the same as you did last year and when you have plenty of keepers you can come back. With the mid range approach if a couple don't fire you'll use so many trades getting your team sorted that your year will be over.

Yeah Jniko is one I don't have much faith in, I have been looking at upgrading him to JReynolds and only running 2 cheapies in halves

I hate to say it but like many others who have been burnt by Aubs before I think it could be a mistake not to run with him for round 1. As a 2RF who is available in the CTR position in Fantasy you really can't go too wrong. As you explained previously the only concern with Aubs while Cordner is out is if he shifts to the CTR's mid game due to an injury.
Okay that's it. Welcome to my team Mitchell Aubusson.

Backed the wrong players, Nabuli, Lee, Moeroa, Halatau, Johnson (he was hopeless to start but did come good, once everyone jumped on). I think I went for too many guns and lacked depth. Plus with my cows crashing I was playing catch up from the start.
Hence this time I am going low on the gun count, only 4 or so out and out (Surgess, Smith, DCE, Graham), and looking to get as many guys like SST, LAM, Carty, BLAW, CLaw, Aubbs etc into side. Yeah guns are more bankable, but I keep thinking they are already at their ceiling and no where to go, where as the midrangers all have the potential to get another 10 points each. So instead of getting Parker + Pauli Pauli, I get LAM and Carty.
Only worry is if 2 or more of the guys who everyone thinks will increase in points go backwards, then I will struggle to upgrade em later on to the elite guns
I think your strategy was right, just picked the wrong cows and held on too long maybe.
I started with guns and cows and I ended up in the top 100 from the get go. I had the same failed cows you started with but I pissed them off quickly.
you also need the right guns, SJ is too hot and cold, you would have been better off with a forward and picked up SJ later in the year.
makes me wonder if I'm making the right decision with DCE and perhaps I can snap him up cheaper at some point

I never had him in my team but I've noticed J Turbo disappearing from a lot of teams. Its funny seeing the flavours of the week appear and disappear from teams haha

My first 2 or 3 teams had both JTurbo and James Graham as the first blokes picked.Mighty Fishes wrote:I never had him in my team but I've noticed J Turbo disappearing from a lot of teams. Its funny seeing the flavours of the week appear and disappear from teams haha
What worries me with them both are the amount of concussions they're getting, especially with the rules as they are now.

Re: 2016 NRL.com Fantasy Thread Part 8
haha jTrbo was also in my very first team. a bit of sensible discussion here its pretty clear he is only slightly underpriced and there are much better value players elsewhere.
i think alot of first teams are just players you think are in for a big year (footy wise) but that doesnt necessarily translate to fantasy and you iron those out during pre season.
cant believe i scrapped through into L1 again, 16th spot haha.
havent changed my team in a week. pretty happy with how it looks but we'll see how that goes come TLT. its hard to see alot changing but the problem is one change causes a butterfly effect and then your team is unrecognisable. that said i'm pretty much locked in on having most of the guys i have now.

Re: 2016 NRL.com Fantasy Thread Part 8
alot of hype articles in pre season every year, but this says barba is doing fitness PB's. has taken 30 seconds off his previous best 1.2km runs.
“I’m 92 kilos, which isn’t much lighter than I was in Brissie,’’ he says. “That’s been the biggest surprise.
“My weight has stayed the same but I’ve been able to make significant increases to my speed and endurance times.
“Same in the gym. I’m lifting more than I ever have before.”
And as for the diet?
“Completely changed, including Maccas,’’ he laughs. “Having a young family, you’d get home from training late, the kids always want McDonalds so, yeah, you all go for a drive down the road.
what blows my mind is these 'professional' athletes still eat rubbish like that? its unbelievable.

I had him on my short list since the end of last season but further research has found 5-8 better valued players in the FRF so he's dumped from my team now

Don't know if it's been said here but Feeney has been confirmed to be starting at fullback for the Knights. He's a halfback playing fullback, so if he can get his positioning right and his catches under pressure he'll be really solid for us. He'll have good voice and control the guys in front of him well and he's got a fantastic face ball and long pass. He'll be a great foil for Mullen and Hodkinson if he stays there.

I'd actually have a sneaky tenner on Honeysett to lose the plot after a bake and bender one night. A very well controlled individual who has the potential to go postal when enough is enough!
