Looks set to play a big role as a starter. Coach really rates him.

Great having Gilbert knowing that his high work rate in big minutes is what is keeping him there, should see it every week.

Definitely a glowing revue, but I always expect coaches to pump up their players and take it with a grain of salt. I still just think he is starting to soften up the defense for Luki on that edge, and he might not do so every week. But it sounds like the coach really rates him and he should play big minutes even when its off the bench. He has the motor to be the go-to guy for injury cover as well, as we saw with JTB last week. It's the $500k pricetag which will stave some people off, pretty awkward without the Welch-esque need to trade, and most will be trading up to Grant.

I suppose it depends whether Payten gets sacked in the next month.

Yeah, even if Luki starts, can see Gilbert coming on after 20 minutes and playing out the game, with the last 20 minutes on the EDG

    This.
I remember when he was in calculations to join Smith in the 400 club, just because of his young age and reliability. Injuries are cruel, but he definitely deserves the 300 accolades. I actually think that the game has gotten too fast for a 31 year old Croker to be keeping up with the supremely athletic Tagos and Crichtons of the new generation, but I would love to see him give it a crack. Maybe they can nurse him through it and then let him retire, like Souths did searching for Nathan Merrit's record breaking try.

I want to get Nanai in but can't justify selling anyone. That's good about my injury free ok performing squad. My trade slut brain is trying to override

He highly rates literally every player that the interviewer mentions. If they were as good as he said they are they wouldn't have just got beaten by last years wooden spooners.

Haha I feel that. I had to be talked down off the ledge of making 2 trades, sacrificing someone who had done exactly as I expected for no real reason.

I was going to say not many coaches actually come out and say well he's shit usually but had 2 good starts so he's held his spot! But Payton did with Lolo last year haha

It's all coach speak and a player being rewarded for some strong performances, although Gilbert was set for a stint last season before injury, he'sa wait and see for me

This is the guy who publicly said how disappointed he was in Lolo. He is pretty up-front.

He wasn't just blowing wind up Gilbert's ass, saying he was in their top 3 performers the last 2 games (and quite correct in that assessment as well).

Are we forgetting about the fact they have Cotter and Lolo who should get about 50-60 each, An 80 minute edge in Nanai, And still have Mclean, Hess and JTB who should get around 40 each aswell. Someone enlighten me on where the minutes for this Gilbert bloke are coming from?

I expect him and Luki to share the left edge minutes with the possibility of 1 playing 10-15 minutes in the middle while Lolo gets his rest.

The thing with Payten... doing the Mourinho thing and issuing a punishment beating to one of your best players to divide and rule works for a while when you're at a financially doped club with unlimited resources and dozens of world-class players, but go a level down (Spurs, Roma, North Queensland) and you'll find it just fucks things up.

I doubt Lolo plays 65-70 minutes. As an owner will be happy with 60 in 60 minutes.

Call me bias all you want and I could be wrong but I would probs pick Arrow over Gilbert if I were going Cheese to one of them as we know Arrow has the much better job security of the 2.

If Arrow was to move to prop we can’t have him playing just 40mins like some games last year he’s too important to us now he’d still have to play around 55mins in the middle I think.

One thing I do know is we can’t have Arrow and Murray off the field at the same time.

Re captaincy this week I’ve had it on Haas all week and I’m not changing. Yes D. Fifita could go nuts but I’m not willing to play captain roulette.

Not a fair comparison mind Arrow costs almost 100K more!
