Haha mate come on, they are completely different players. Sorenson is an impact player whilst Hopgood is a big minute ball playing lock Rolling Laugh .

Everyone is saying Matterson is out till round 4, but he back flipped on paying the fine after the back lash, release of the draw and on winning $4K in the clubs inagural first Eels player suspended for 2023 award.

Did the NRL make a decision ?

I'm expecting Hopgood to stake his claim to the big minute lock role while Matto is out, and then going forward I would think they play Matto off the bench in the middle rotation like they were last year. Hopgood is a special talent at lock and to move him from there would be lunacy.

So if Matto plays 60 minutes (or an alternative number of minutes) off the bench, how many minutes will Hopgood play as a starting LOCK. C'mon humour me like I am a bit already. Predictions of Hopgood's minutes and score from Round 4 - starting or otherwise. He is very talented, but is he going to win me fantasy NRL

When Matto realises the Eels are shit and renegs on his contract and joins the Dolphins on their original $2.4M subsidesed by the Eels, Hoopgood will get the 60+minutes and become a keeper. You will miss the price rise but generate the cash which you will be unable to cash in. So NO but he will get you in the top 1000 if your selections around him warrant it.

NRL fine and suspension system is screwed up....

    Matterson has 2 options:
    1. Go to work and pay thousands of dollars in fines; or
    2. Get a break from work, don't pay thousands in fines and still get paid your full salary.

Surely the players agreements with clubs should say if they get suspended they are on leave without pay.

Yeah I’m with ya, just don’t have the same expectations as others. There’s every chance he steps up this year to something special just like there’s every chance he finds his feet and becomes a regular first grader. He is a QLDer so hoping the former but from a fantasy perspective if after round 4 he finds himself averaging 35mins a game I’m not going to be shocked.

Completely agree with this, they’ve just never had this issue arise because they’ve never come across a guy so tight.
The only thing I’ll add is that sometimes those incidents are accidental, most workplaces won’t charge you for an accident.

Yep gotcha, yea I'm cautiously optimistic but will temper expectations to see the role he plays in trials. if he looks to be the facilitator in the middle like he has been at training so far i dont see how a small minute role works with that style/structure. I cant think of a 13 who is a part of the spine and structure playing small minutes.

I doubt they'd play both Murchie and Doorey, odds are it'd be just one of them and Makatoa on the bench instead.

Originally i thought the same but apparently Murchie has been training solely middle. either way dont think the minutes changes much

Based on that I think Matto might actually play on the edge for at least a little bit unless Doorey gets 80 straight away. Could have Doorey 60 on the edge, Hopgood 60 in the middle and Matto 55 mins (20 on the edge and 35 in the middle taking 10 from one of the props)

The Dolphin Conspiracies wrote:What is everyone realistically expecting from Hopgood? Great player puts in hard - but Matterson is going to be the big minute LOCK from R4 for sure and Hopgood (for all his potential) has never played an 80 minute game. Great player - marginal fantasy value as far as I can see. Same bucket as Gilbert

I'm expecting him to gather a small band of followers early doors but as his popularity grows and the message spreads he will sacrificed upon the crucifix of rugby league expectation by naysayers. He will unexpectedly rise again three days after being consigned to the fantasy scrapheap (or around origin). By the end of the season he will have ascended into rugby league heaven and be anointed the 14th immortal.

His legend will only grow with the passing of time.

That is what I am expecting of J'maine Hopgood....he has the mark (some peculiar punctuation in his christian name)

I'm shit at Fantasy Football, dont listen to me, but wouldn't Havili, Jacob Host and Liam Knight be ahead of him? DPP for Clark at least.
