Does Talau really provide that much cover though? 15 points vs a 0? It's like paying 10k a year car insurance for a 15k car.

If I got an extra 15 points I could jump 5000 ranks. Happens more than once and you are looking at a reasonable difference

You would think that if they are splitting EDG/MID minutes, they would be playing Carty EDG and Matterson MID, not Matterson EDG and Carty playing some MID.

I would expect something like Matterson 20-30 minutes EDG, then 20-30 minutes MID, then finish for Doorey. Would give Carty about 50-60 minutes, Doorey maybe 70.

It's possible, I'm sorry but you have form for making predictions based off what you want to happen. If you don't like Carty in the middle for 10 minutes, it's also possible that Matterson plays 80 on the edge, one of the other middles spells Hopgood if needed and Carty just comes on for Doorey with 20 to go. I just don't see why they wouldn't play the guy who is head and shoulders the best edge in the team on the edge, when they already have a big minute lock. But I'm not an NRL coach. Not my downvote btw.

I *reckon* matto will play as a bench mid when he comes back.. probably cover some edge later in game if needed.

The eels look short on bench mids at the moment... Murchie got a good run but Greig hardly any mins and didnt even give Makatoa a run.

This assumes Carty continues to perform ok.

Lane a couple of weeks after Matto returns, at full strength Matto is bench mid anyway with Lane+Doorey starting edges.

Nathan Brown due back next would fix that, no?

Note that I am much less upbeat about Carty's minutes than the post below yours where mtvb is saying Carty for 80. You could say that I am holding the middle ground, not the most optimistic of perspectives on Carty.

Both Brown and Carty were on the outer last season, so who knows.

Im not saying he'll play 80, just that i think he might hold the starting spot til Lane returns.. ie matto bench

I noticed this as well at one stage during the game, thought it was just me.

Garner was replaced by Salmon at around the 50 min mark.

Is this due to poor match fitness with the expectation of him building towards 80 over the season?

At the moment, I'm still holding. I know a lot of people are jumping off. Apologies if this has been answered, have been skipping a few forum pages since RD 1.

Have ended up with EButch -> Ford and Tino -> Cook this morning. Means I will have Cleary, Murray, Cook, DCE and Teddy (and absolute shit filled around them). LFG

I think with the number of quality EDGs at discounted prices out there, those that have Garner are jumping off him.

Another loss, and Panthers come back with changes after the bye, and he would have to be high on the list of outs, when they have a quality EDG waiting in the wings. If you have Cleary and plan to keep him, Garner becomes at best your 19th man in your playing team, if you don't trade him next week.

I'm not sure how likely it is to happen. If it happens in team lists you make the trade you were thinking about anyway to get cover or replace the guy missing. Keep a close eye on it, and if there's a late out in the early games, same thing. If there's any rumours or "X player has to make it through the protocols" then you put a more solid plan in place. If you have a late out in one of the later games, you lament the fact that you missed out on 15 points. No biggy. I just thought I might be able to make more cash and potentially more solid scoring by going without cover because I really didn't want to pick Talau. Jury's out on the verdict though.

Have you started planning towards what you will do with all of these Origin players come round 13?
