Just finished watching the third game and here I am once more. Followed along with some forum chatter along the way and indulged in some good laughs. @mytvbroke push-up storyline was a treat. Congrats to
@Mattnz too for killing it in the early stages too.
Anyway, may as well put a bit of pen to paper as I roll through the scores as I see (most) for the first time today;
Harris - interestingly enough, it was his ex team-mate, RTS, that taught me, in my first go at Fantasy, not to take too much from early scores and just work on cash generation... but Harris is not RTS, or any WFB as a matter of fact, and I wish I had an avenue to bring him in at this stage. BUT! I do not.
Niukore - sweet mother of christ! What did I miss in this match; how did he get that score in those minutes?? Insane numbers.
Egan - two tries in two weeks if memory serves? And he always looks beaten and injured... but looking like a decent option for the essential Cheese trade.
Johnson - murmurs about him from certain circles in the pre-season. Certainly outdoing other more popular options. I'd still be very tentative to pull the trigger, but all else aside, I actually thought to myself that he looks fit in this match. Don't think it'd ever be a true consideration, but there's definitely worse options.
Barnett - performing well. Priced out of range of interest for me, but nice numbers.
Teddy - pretty sure he
didn't score more points in this one than he actually did. So many "almosts." Frustrating way to spend so many dollars upfront, but hoping he puts it all together next week for at least one worthwhile score in his first three outings. Not overly confident, though.
CNK/B.Smith/Ford - bit of a rant here, but what's going on with the concussion thing? Please correct me if I'm wrong (and I hope someone does, and I am wrong), but just confirming, no player that was ruled out of the match in R1 for HIA has backed up, have they? And in the pre-season, did I imagine it, or was it stated that in 2023 there is an 11 day turnaround for HIA's, meaning that even if a player is ruled out of a match on Thursday, they cannot play on Sunday the following week. Did I imagine this? Because it seems to be playing out and if it is in fact true, why the fuckery? Why was Blore, or Radley named on Tuesday? Was there any even remote chance they were ever going to suit up? My understanding is no, but I hope I'm wrong because I really dislike fuckery for the sake of fuckery.
This Ford thing is a bit of a killer. Cash generation wiped out instantly, and assuming you hold on to him, which I plan to do, you have a red dot next week, alongside your bye round players. Slap to the scrotum.
Anyway, the HIA thing can't be helped. I just hope if I'm right, they lift the fuckery and it's plain and simply stated that if a player is ruled out of a match for HIA that means they will not be playing the next weekend too, because this is how I understand it and I'm pretty sure it's what's happening.
But regarding these three players, I was at the beach today having a joyous time with my kids watching them slot into whitewater tubes before my eyes. Finished up around 5pm and as we're all getting changed at the car I quickly check my work H2H on my phone and my Ford is on 4, both of our Cheese's are on 8 and and his CNK is on 11 and I think lol, looks like I have no reception and scores are frozen in the first few minutes of the match. But, I say to myself, why is my Teddy on 40 and his Butcher on 33? Clicked that something fucked up had happened and before I got to sit down and watch the the match, I assumed all three players had met for a massive head clash in the first few minutes of the match. The reality of the situation wasn't far off.
Just on Cheese, I don't like stuff like this but I'm going to participate in it anyway. Only played Fantasy probably coming up on 5 years now and I have never once in that time considered Cheese, ever. Way too erratic, right or wrong seems like a HIA magnet (stats could say he's only had one or two ever, but what my mind sees anyway) and looks injured 95% of the time he's on the field. Nothing about him has ever appealed to me, but like many, I didn't want to miss out if he was actually decent this year. I like to learn a lesson each year, and this year it will definitely be to ignore the noise and single-mindedly go with your gut. Was never on my list before this year and 100% completely relegated to the never-again list. And I don't mean to cast shade on the guy. Seems like a cool fella, just not for Fantasy in any way, shape or form. IN! My opinion, of course.
Tapine - nice. Really needed that after game one of Super Saturday. I don't know if I'm not watching right, but I just don't notice what he does, 63 points later. Always solid, but I don't notice the exact points in the match that he accrues these Fantasy points.
Hammer - traded Talau > Hammer this week. No guarantee Talau doesn't trip over for two tries tomorrow and score similarly, but this just seems too good to ignore in the CTR position. Two tries (again?), though. I very much acknowledge these are fruitful times, but I bought him for his 35 point average at FB, which I'm more than happy with at CTR for now, so this is nice, and nice cash generation too.
Nicholls - what great times for those that took the plunge. I was not one.
Starling/Guler - lol, as it stands they both scored the minutes they played. Doing awesome with limited minutes.
Levi - not going to lie, I was tempted. Not gold, but doing better than others in the HOK position.
Teague - didn't go un-noticed whatsoever. Assume Stone slots back in when he's fit, but definitely a very interesting prospect.
O'Sullivan - that sin-bin. Wow.
I.Katoa - nice turnaround. Might hopefully get a bit of cash flowing sooner than expected? No guarantees, though. Could be a ride.
HSS - again, another dude I just absolutely did not notice, even as an owner. But I'll definitely take that in the CTRs. Past experience reminds me this dude is just a solid unit. Following comments on the forum, though, seems like I may have picked the wrong guy to accompany HTF.
Aitken/Young - wow, some prices plummeting here. Even at CTR, Aitken scoring well below par at the moment. I wonder how far he'll drop, and more importantly, if he's even of any interest if he drops far enough. Young could definitely be interesting, though.
Kiraz - what a weapon. Really good player, and obviously Fantasy gold for anyone with steel testicles.
Preston - haha, I wonder if the poster that I added my one bit of advice to through the week took my advice. I said something along the lines of the fact that I wouldn't trade out Preston because his R1 minutes were gold and sooner or later we'll all be scrambling to get him in our teams. Haha. It was a calculated decision for me to hold off on him in the first couple of rounds, but more than willing to admit it was a poorly calculated decision. Oh well, if I can figure out the HOK thing, Cheese definitely becomes Preston this week.
E.Katoa - thank you, my good man. I almost deposited juices when he crossed over for that late (no) try, but looks like this'll do just fine.
Welch - so solid. I have him in other formats, but not Fantasy. Solid.
Mahoney - still appealing. Just need to figure out how to get Tohu/Preston/Mahoney into my team next week for Cheese. Tips?
Perham - nice... real nice for owners. Hope those score translate in VSDT/SC.
Alamoti - fuck. I'll hungrily accept the price rises, but I guess I got the HSS or Alamoti for my 17 pick wrong. Oh well, can't win them all.
Garlick - wow, another big PPM. HOK too? Cheese replacement, lol?
Loiero - the one I just couldn't squeeze in. Rolling along very nicely. Definitely wish he was my Ford this week.
Burton - nice CTR option last year.
Warbrick - saw it mentioned above, but I'll definitely take that for a match like that. Would ideally like him in my NPR, but a bit tricky for now. Unless... if I can squeeze Tohu/Preston/Mahoney/Walsh in for Cheese, I could be onto something.
Apologies, my people. That'll take anyone all of Sunday to read. Just a few thoughts as they come to mind... hope you didn't read this far, for your sake.
Good night of footy. First game an absolute killer for Fantasy, but good to see Dolphins get up again, even if they and the Dogs are doubling up on two wretched weeks of tipping. But two very well deserved wins.
Onwards to the undoubted ups and downs of Sunday Footy now...
