Could go either way. Could be Talakaid out of the squad and an actual centre/wing put on the bench for injury cover, or could be a starter replacing Luai after a media storm (I notice Luai has been getting lower scores than Cleary in the points out of ten articles, which is lol). Or I suppose there's a third, dumber way where he's at 14 again.

NSW always overreact to a loss, look for a scapegoat, take the ‘NSW don’t get origin’ bait, change their team and fuck it up all over again. It’s pretty funny.

They also overreact to a win and start talking about dynasties.

    This.
Unfortunately, when your team has only won 4 series in the last 17 years (my memory is getting hazy ... too many Queensland miracles to count) then running ahead of your self, or freaking out is part of the problem.
Queensland have NSW spooked because of the Smith / Thurston / Cronk / Slater / G.I dynasty.

The selectors keep picking 'stars' and reacting to Queensland picks, instead of getting a brains-trust together to come up with a solid, simple game plan and select players who are in-form (not busted super-stars).
Take Friz, won the jumper back on form and proved that he gets Origin. One of the few out there who played well.

I'm grateful to Freddy for giving Hynes an easy night. Good to have a no-question C choice.

I guess Turbo doesn't play again for Manly until round 17 (if he backs up from origin 2).

Weekes owners will be happy with 17s for another few weeks.

I know it's fun to overreact and call for the coach's head, but given they had 1 series win out of 12 before he took over, would another coach have actually done better than Freddie's 3-2 series record since he took over?

One could argue that has more to do with the QLD spine of immortals retiring, I think it’s fair to say that Freddie has been working with a better side on paper since at least 2019.

Also as a Queenslander, it’s interesting watching Cleary consistently get a pass mark for a level of performance that got Pearce raked over coals.

I'm a Kiwi so no real skin in the game either way, but aside from 2020 (which was, admittedly, embarrassing) I'm not sure that's necessarily true. I certainly don't think NSW were clearly a better side on paper for last year's series or last night. Just focussing on the spines, I think you'd struggle to take Teddy, Luai, or Koro over Walsh, Munster, or Grant/Hunt on current form.
