Really warming up to starting with Metcalf. Kicked more than usual even when SJ was on the field in the trials and I feel like they are going to give him more responsibility this year as they will be blooding him to take the reins when SJ gives it up. Having RTS outside him will be helpful as well. Have some concerns with his injury history though.

Obviously Boyd offers half cover, but aside from that, you could just start with Robson for 45-50 scoring and not have to worry about a bye forever.

Whichever Raider partners Fog will be half cover anyway. Maybe not a great scorer but in the 18-21 a 25-30 is ok.

Been a lot of neg chat around Hutch in the last 48 hours here but I think he will be solid enough. A cumbersome trial does not make a season. Maybe Sexton is closer to getting the gig than I think though.

I'm still quite high on Hutch. I think a 40-45 point average is well achievable, which at that price point is great.

If I end up starting with Plath, I will happily re-look at my hooker options and can comfortably ditch Boyd

What's the story with Galvin all you Tiger folk? Worth sticking him at 21 and hope he comes into the team at some point?

Surely its better to wait until he actually gets named

If you chuck him in your team and then wait 4 weeks for him to get a 15 minute bench spot, that's a waste of a spot in your 21, and a base price player that's hard to upgrade from

Are you thinking Hutch will be doing much of the field kicking? Because he wasn't in the trials.

Also coming around to Metcalf under the "better player in a better team" theory.

What do you think would be a typical stats breakdown to get over 40 points?

I just don't see how he'll hit it regularly

My take on this is that everyone was set on Robson pre season until he was meh in the trials, or JBraily until he got injured yet again). The other middy options are all pretty 'pick one out of a hat and hope for the best' so if you are going to grab an elite guy it's either Grant or Cook.

They are around the same price, both have byes before Origin, both have a team mate you may or may not be depending on in your team as well (Papy & Murray/Tatola) but only one of them locks in this weekend before we get a look at the second set of team sheets (Cook).

    That's my take anyway.

pryce looked very classy in the trials & has a great gk technique & times it 100%...you see him after he strikes the ball he keeps his head down & doesn't raise it until the ball is going through the posts...the secret of gk'ing is your plant foot & keping your head down

    Looking at base-ish stats:

    20 TCK
    2 TB
    60 RM
    200 KM
    0.5 OF
    ~38

    2 MT
    1 ER
    0.5 PEN
    ~32

So you're looking at needing about 9 points of T/LB/LBA/TA/FDO/KD/TO/TS.

If we halve his career numbers for a worse team: 0.2 T, 0.3 LB, 0.3 LBA, 0.3 TA = 5.

We need 3 points out of FDO/KD/TO/TS to get to 40.

Seems tough, but not out of the question. Definitely less of a home run than I thought.

As alluded to above, that all seems possible if he's getting the kick meters (think you're being generous on the MTs in a team that's more likely to be getting dominated though).

However, in the trial, Burton booted the ball for 522m ans Hutch got 56m. They're also both left footed and Hutch is parked on the wrong side of the field for that. Whether that was all a one-off for the trial or the shape of things to come, I don't know but in a world with minimal kick metres it's possible to see Hutch averaging around 30.

200km is an ask of someone playing next to Burton.

Only happened 3 times last year (3 different players, Mahoney, Oloapu and Sexton all did it once each)

100-150 is more likely, and quite often Mahoney is the next most kicky guy.

I still think Hutch is value, in that he'll score more than he's priced, but don't think he is an instant cash machine

Hutch to me seems like a 100-150k cash gen guy rather than a 250k+ hold through origin guy.

Dogs would need significant improvement for the later

I feel like I've landed on a great team but it leaves me with 0k ITB lol:

    Grant
    Haas Tatola Cotter
    Piakura Sitili
    (C)leary Fog
    Burbo Strange
    Paps Turbo Rapana

    Lussick, Luki, Hutch, Salmon

Hughes, Cotric, Bradley (or whichever cheapie shows up TLTB), Mikaele

    Thoughts lads?
