Ranking the sub 400
1. WEEKES - byes not the best but was already knocking on Strange’s door before losing their dominant half and fielding an 18yo at fullback. Nice DPP and job security should be ok
2. PIAKURA - bit more expensive if you’re fundraising or cashing out but looks like the edge starting spot is his whenever fit, so if fit, probably needs to be fit (in)
3. ATKINSON - Trindall was not overly impressive which should give him a decent shot at the role no matter how his drug test comes back. Gets a really soft start and introduction to the role against the now worst halves combo in the league.
4. ARMSTRONG - News of Sharpe seemingly having this role in 1-2 weeks is not TOO off-putting given he still gets first crack at the role. The fact this is a long term job opportunity and the Knights have Dolphins, Warriors, Titans and Tigers before their bye appeals as a punt
5. SASAGI - don’t ever really trust this sort of “forward” for any sort of job security, and 39pts in his 80min when it included a try is not great, BUT - CTR/HLF on paper and named to start? He’s an odd one like Plath in the DPP stakes for much less of an outlay.
Others (with weak job security)
- Gray: a lot has been said about his size but he’s a lively likely type. Just can’t see them moving Latrell to centres to make room for him
- Sanders: probably doesn’t have to do much to keep the job. Eels have been poor in this position and with Talagi failing miserably, he could be in with a longer shot at just this week
- Alaimalo: Have been waiting for this rugby convert to get his shot. Was a pre season punt until not named in R2 teams, for a team that has some previous on getting wingers to go large (Nofu vibing)
- Gagai: first start since round 1. His score of 28 included a try so doesn’t excite
[Edit] LABAN - all awaiting a Capewell update. He hasn’t produced off the bench so comes down to job security
