After Ben Hornby said Latrell was out for the season, they have now supplied evidence he is fit for R27 after all. Miraculous! Of course still didn’t name him to actually play, but this sudden 180 in his recovery timeframe will mean he can serve his suspension this week instead of R1 next year. Assuming that the NRL stand and applaud this absolute pisstake

I legit stand and applaud it btw. No outrage here. Its funny to me, and would rather Latrell be available to start the season than serving a ban for being in the vicinity of a white powder

He should be made to fully take part in the Team warm up and then play a game of lower level footy for free to give back to the community he goes on and on about, just to make this seem far less comical

I'm impressed by the layers of virtue signalling (following the photo near a white powder);
- $20k fine paid to the NRL, $20k fine paid to Souths - I assume both payments will go to drug rehabilitation etc and not just disappear into their coffers to pay for end of season drinks....
- $80k suspended fine should he reoffend - which I presume means being again photographed near any white powder - so I guess he can't go into a kitchen, bathroom, HS's house, I guess he can't shop at Coles either which will be disappointing to some... etc...
- 1 match suspension to punish um... not sure who exactly, doubt it makes a difference to him or Souths at this point of the season
- Serve the suspension while not selected / unavailable / injured, but club needs to fake availability, because they don't really want to uphold the punishment if it affects their next season. NRL probably don't want it to affect his ability to be selected by Australia either...
It's like layers of the onion of virtue... underneath all the layers I'm sure we've all learnt something about something

Latrell probably needed a few lines to keep him alert for all the community work he was doing Wasn't he participating in a womens rugby league coaching clinic in Dubbo when the photo was taken?
TBH most of the time he has been in trouble it's generally during some sort of community event. They should actually ban him from doing anything with the community

Did anyone want to help me beta test this for Finals Fantasy: https://yafss.com/finals_fantasy ?
Give it a run for Round 27 and potentially use it for the finals. It's a bit held together with sticky tape at the minute, but hopefully it works. I'll get the winner added in to yafss first thing next season.
You'll need to login, but if you setup an account for the team optimiser at the start of the year, that will continue to work.
Also more than happy to save it for next year if @Chewie is keen to run it manually.

To be honest, the NRL trying to move his suspension is complete bullshit anyway, and they deserve to have the piss taken for it.
If the NRL wants to tell clubs that players can't serve any suspension if they are injured, then I would be pissed off at my club if they didn't try to name him to play every week. It isn't the NRL's job to determine a recovery timeframe. Of it they want to make it their job (similar to concussion protocols) then they need to do it for every player, not just ones with a possible suspension hanging over them
If someone happens to be injured as they same time they are suspended, its just lucky for them.
Given Souths have nothing to play for, if I was them I would have named Latrell in Jersey 17. If the NRL doesn't call their bluff then worst case he is an unused sub and they play with 16 this week (but I'd make sure to at least get him on for a few minutes at the end of the game)
