Ah just what I wanted for those out there who say Souths injury crisis wasn’t that bad. By a mile we had by far the worst.

Most teams wouldn’t cope with such a crisis

That's poor player management and training/conditioning if ever I've seen it

Whatever way you slice it, Souffs had a shit year with injuries. There’s clearly a big outlier aspect, perhaps also some reflection on injury management in some cases. But would guess it’s mostly outlier.

It is a pretty crude analysis though

Like are Roosters better at injury management because they timed the two ACLs for R27? The club has had way more ACLs over the last 5 years than anyone

There’s also the aspect of missing games for  club (squad) vs team (best 17) - eg Bulldogs had a lot of missing games but if 48 is Olapau and Sutton, they were knowns they planned for in 2024, and fringe players anyway.

Souths had the hardest draw too which didn’t help with all the injuries we were the only side to have to play all top 4 sides twice.

Rugby League Week used to do an analysis around Finals time of Injuries and finishing position, and discipline (penalties for and against) and finishing position. Used to be interesting reading back in the day when there wasn't a lot of that sort of analysis done for the Public.

Pretty unfair that you didn't get to play the 16th placed team even once, but then you did get to play the 15th placed team and the wooden spooners twice each

Also while Souths did play the top 4 plus Sea Eagles twice:

    Broncos did play 1,2,3,5 twice

    Raiders played 3-8 twice

Warriors played Storm, then 4 other finals teams, twice

    Parra played 1-3, 6-7 twice

    Dragons played 2-4, 6-7 twice

So not that unique or special

Even teams with easier draws, often played a couple of Broncos, Eels , Warriors and yes Souths twice. And nobody has a crystal ball. If you said that playing Broncos and Souths is way easier than playing Bulldogs and Knights in March (or even June) people would’ve thought you were crazy

You only played the Warriors once. Sharks and Roosters weren't top 4 sides when the draw was released. Give your crystal balls another rub to avoid the truth. Souths had a shit year and hard to blame falling from 9th to 16th on injuries and using hindsight to justify a tough draw is a joke. Try blaming discipline, the coach, why is/was Lattrell suspended so often, why did Cook get dropped, why did they sack the coach mid season ? Because we were injured and had the hardest draw !!

So here’s the w-l (%) for the top 8 against other top 8 teams

    Knights 1-9 (10%)
    Roosters 3-7 (30%)
    Bulldogs 4-7 (36%)

    Storm 6-4 (60%)
    Panthers 7-4 (63%)
    Sharks, Seagles 6-3 (67%)
    Cowboys 7-3 (70%)

So rule out 3 teams already then

How good is this, some love Beating Heart!

Can u do one that shows the Sharks win/loss with Atkinson in the halves (named)

    This is most apt:

Where there is injury, let me sow pardon.

Answering my own question, surprisingly recently

We played Canterbury in the final round of 2021. Canterbury got the wooden spoon that year, but they won that game, beating the Tigers 38-0

It’s a number of things fitness, JD not being up to it etc along with injuries and a hard draw it’s a combination

Attitude and culture is why we finished where we did. A coach who couldn't reign in and control his players didn't help those aspects either but after that all hope was already lost.

Not many players really gave a shit to want to play for the jersey either. At times in some games it was only Murray having a dig out there too.

Can't blame injuries either when our recruitment has been putrid and we haven't taken a single step forward since telling Reynolds to fuck off. Wighton too I guess in fairness has had a dig once moving to the halves but he was a poor signing for the price.
