I don't like that only because lets say Cameron Smith was injured you could easily name him in a 20 - 25 man squad whether the coach knows he is playing or not then on the second one could name him again in a 19 to 20 man squad then in the final team list not name him at all I think that would infact confuse everything more because then people / bookies will think he'll be a chance to play when he was never going to play where as this current system he would just not have been named at all.
I think clubs should have to publicly make announcements through the week as things occur. Name your 17 on Tuesday but if there is a change on the final teams and the club hasnt announced it through the week penalise them. Warm up injury is different I can understand that being a late change with no indication but look at Gallen last week. It was well known that he wasn't playing early but in that situation when the coach ruled him out there should have been an announcement from the team. If the public are informed it will stop the problem
Under the current system they can do that already though??
With the proposed system they would surely be less likely to name a bloke that is no chance.....just in case any of the other players were ruled out late.
The only flaw in the system I can see is if a club legitimately copped a few days of bad luck and due to a few last minute injuries ran out of blokes in the squad to name.
Only way around that would be to set up deterrents e.g. some sort of penalty/offset for having to go outside the named squads for additional players.
