ricky isn't playing him much
that would minimize his ability to churn out the big numbers but there has also gotta to be a reason why isn't getting those minutes
one thing ricky has done since he got to canberra is make big decisions on previously well performing players, i wouldn't be shocked if ricky ends up dropping him if he doesn't make a bigger impact. raiders were better off with tapine, bateman etc last night
losing tapine must suck as a knights fan, he couldn't be a great long term player for that club.

Tapine is a monster. I pity the team that comes up against the Raiders when the blokes potential is finally realised and he is let go for 60+ minutes! Just looks like a good footballer. Strong, defensive technique on point, bends a line back when carrying the ball... Just not much to not like about the guy.

yeah, sucks they let him go but I guess at the time we weren't in a position to keep him, with the raiders offering big bucks for him.
It's a shame we wasted all that cash on Hodkinson/Tariq sims/korbin sims at the time then couldnt afford tapine. He's a weapon.
He cant crack the starting side at the raiders, yet would be the best forward in the newcastle pack if he stayed.

I shouldn't bite, because it's a broncos thread not Raiders, but you might want to compare boydies minutes this year with what he did last year before you make up stuff like "Ricky isn't playing him much". A big reason he and other forwards are struggling for meters this year is because of ball control. I also think the ruck had been policed slightly different this year and we got a lot quicker play the balls last year which is always good for your big boppas. We will adjust or the refs will, so I'm not too concerned with that side of it

I know he didnt play much last week, not sure if there was a concussion or whatever tho.
He played decent minutes this week though.
Is this what you are saying? He would have done like 10 or so but dropped the ball 2/3 times?

On a sadder note, mcfluffer blocked me on twitter yesterday after I argued with him about the thiday thumb thing.
He was claiming that there was nothing wrong with it, it was a football play etc etc. I was merely pointing out how incorrect he was and he blocked me.
This is a dark day my friends.

The point is definitely up for debate. On one side to target a players injury can be seen as a grub act then on the other side of the coin it can also be seen as fair to target any player if they take the field. If a player takes the field they have deemed themselves fit to play therefore any injuries they may be carrying are open to exploitation.

Agree but IMO the difference is targeting an injury through fair play, a big hit etc not grabbing a blokes thumb and trying to reef it off. Under what circumstances in a game do you need to grab a blokes thumb ?? You can accidentally step on it or have your knee land on it in a tackle. Using it like a gear stick is grubby

Dip wrote:I don't mind Paul Kent. I think he's a pretty insightful journalist most of the time, but in this case he's wrong. Even in this morning's article he try's to justify his stance by saying among other things:
"It was part of the Bennett mystique. But that mystique is dead now.
Bennett sat in a press conference at last year’s Four Nations and publicly ripped the attitude of his captain Sam Burgess.
Burgess was sitting next to him.
So we can assume it is all right for Bennett, his God-complex complete, to rip his player publicly in front of the cameras but it is not all right for a 255-game player like Marshall to privately question the work ethic of a teammate?"
This is what Bennett actually said, it is nothing to do with Burgess' attitude:
"The problem is our inability to continually maintain pressure... not finding the sideline on two occasions, which is pretty important in any context let alone against the best team in the world. Then the stupid penalties we continually give away. Sam gives away far too many penalties - I'll be quite candid with you. He does that at South Sydney as well so he needs to change his behaviour.
Lockyer has come out and backed Kent's article and it was Ikin that gave him the story. This is the story that just keeps giving.

Exactly right. My point with is it - its not a footy play. I never even mentioned the injury, the fact he was injured when he played is irrelevant. Twisting his thumb back like that is in the same category as a chicken wing or a neck twist etc. Its not a foot play and its against the spirit of the game.
If he had cracked ribs and copped a good legal shot in the ribs and get hurt, fair game. As you said, target it through fair play, or at least disguised fair play.
What thiday did clearly was not a footy play - it should have copped a suspension regardless of the injury.
Mcfluffers arguement was - "Thiday was trying to get Bromwich's hand off the ball, which is the entire point of the game". Got some sold LOLz. Guess Ill have to make a new twitter account now.

Fully agree with all of the above and to be honest I was pretty bloody disappointed in Thaiday.
Please note this post for future reference when it is insinuated that McFlavour and I are one and the same.

Sort of, my point was that I'm pretty sure he averaged something like 30-35min last season. So far this season he has averaged closer to 40, so Ricky is already giving him more game time (exclude tigers because he was rested, as were a few others, in order to be fresh for the 5 day turn around when it was clear the game was won). I think he averaged about 9 runs and ~ 90m last year or thereabouts, but as he was getting less minutes i had no problem with that as well as the fact his value isn't necessarily in quantity but the quality of the runs and the play the balls off the back of it. This year the numbers are down despite increased minutes, but yes i personally think its down to drop balls for the most part. It might not be him that dropped the ball, but if we drop a ball on the 1st or 2nd tackle, anyone who was going to take a hitup later in that set won't get the opportunity and instead does more tackling. If we start holding the ball and getting decent completion rates and his involvement in attack stays low than I'll be concerned and think he needs a kick up the ass, but i don't think that will be the case.Pieman wrote:

Fox reporting Jack Bird has signed a 3 year $2.1m contract with Bennett planning to play him at lock.
