JDB was the highest I found with 13 of 15 games played (when playing 60+ minutes at lock)

That is interesting, so let's assume you have a team with A. Fifita, S. Burgess, C. McInnes, J. DeBelin already in it as well as Smith. If you turned Smith to Brailey you have $500k to splash around. Where would you spread that cash or what other gun would you most like to bring in.

I'll preface this by saying I am currently running with Smith, Fifita and McInnes. I think Fifita is comparable to Smith. Fifita scored 50+ in 19/22 games last year, Smith 22/23 games. Fifita scored 55+ in 18/22 games last year, Smith in 18/23 games. Fifita scored 60+ in 14/22 games, Smith in 16/23 games. Fifita's average is likely to be with in 2-3 points of Smith all year so you don't lose that much ground running with Fifita as captain instead of Smith. With the value at hooker that has shown up late (McInnes, Brailey) and the lack of cash cows in other forward slot I can understand why people are choosing not to run with Smith. JDB at lock/Mannering at lock were pretty much matching Smith so if you can get those 2 into your team(and think JDB's role stays the same) and pick up the value hookers it could be a master stroke.

Not too much to be honest. Other than Brailey the side looks really balanced and really solid overall.

.. if i run with Brailey then my 17 differs by 3 players. Basically have the same NPRs too (though most will have much of the same in NPRs anyway)

When I was looking at Brailey it would be between picking up McInnes or Gallen. However the McInnes route gave me a slightly better 17 overall.

Is it a bad idea to not have a recognised gun there?

IMO, the FR is pretty light on guns anyway. I'm running Gurgess and either one of Saifiti or JWH. JWH should be a 45-50 point scoring prop.

It's about how well you use the money saved by not going with Smith. This example should explain my point & I'll use 2016 end averages:
    (a) Smith (c) = 134 Gurgess = 32 but I'll assume he scores 40 - total points = 174
    (b) Fifita (c) = 126 McInnes = 50 but I'll assume he scores 55 - total points = 181

You can also have enough cash left over if you go with the McInnes option to beef up your reserves.

If you don't run with Smith you have to use the extra cash to upgrade a weak position which seems like FRF or 2RF this year. So Simon Mannering or James Graham. Probably Graham since Surgess and JDB are already in the team

He should average 40 when he's not giving away silly penalties, injured or suspended.

My team atm is completely down to TLT in the backs.

    McInnes, Luke
    DSaifiti, JWH, Gurgess, FKaufusi
Surgess, McGuire, ET, Sironen, SMat, LLeilua
    Cronk, Moses, Lamb, Elgey
    Talakai, Idris, Cotric, Kelly
    RTS, Hayne, Python, Suli, Dufty

Only 4K left, could drop Leilua to get a lil more cash in the backs lol atm can't bring in any 143k players

Why does everyone wait until the end of the year looking for POD's when they achieve the same thing from the start? Smiths ownership is 28% and McInnes is 4% you can then use the cash to get in Fifita as captain whos ownership is 12%.

Any does anyone look for PODs at all.  Why not try and pick the best scoring players instead

Fifita and Smith are maxed out price/scoring so you get what you pay an arm and a leg for...people say I'm running Fifita for less scores but saving but you ain't really saving because you are scoring less points. You would gain the most by not running CS9 or Fifita and finding someone like JDB or Mcinnes and be brave enough to captain them when they are scoring at there highest scoring potential (JDB 67 avg when 60+ minute lock and Mcinnes 60 avg playin 65+ minutes) that way you are replacing CS9s and Fifitas scoring potential and saving a shit tonne of money to spread elsewhere. Ultimate risk reward strategy but leaving out both completely is madness and I don't know what I'm talking about

@ Random. I bet the non Smith team outscores the Smith team. For example in the Smith team you have I. Papalii as a reserve.

Can't decide whether it's worth downgrading the likes of McGuire to make Moses or Sezer into SJ. I think he's overpriced but he looked like his old self in the trial albeit only a trial

I know why people are going with JWH due to slim pickings in that price point range but he was pretty poor in 2016 & looked a bit past it. Plus his role is as an enforcer which means he's more likely to give away penalties & make errors which won't equate a a good score.

Solid but centres are lite, all depending how Talakai and Idris score first week, if they go shithouse the last thing you want to do is trade in week 2,maybe Smat to centres and more than 4 reserves

    Reserves...Luke,Gurgess,Lamb,Sironen

You could sacrifice 1 ..either Elgey or Leilua to upgrade elsewhere

JWH has much chance as Gurgess to better his shit 2016 avg this year. Hit a 45 avg before can do it again, he definitely won't go any worse
