Anyway, Daley today calls for the refs not to let QLD slow down the ruck and instead blows penalties like each week in the Telstra Premiership. Obviously forgot to check the stats which show that of the 50 most penalised players in the NRL this year, 2 are Queenslanders and 9 are Blues.

State of Origin 2017 Series
We have threads for each team, so thought I might as well start one for the actual matches.

Re: State of Origin 2017 Series
Maybe he has watched the last few years State of Origin series, where ruck penalties have been non-existent and the game has become boring because of it.
Or maybe he should have just asked the Refs to penalise NSW more than QLD. Would have been an interesting press conference

Re: State of Origin 2017 Series
I like Laurie Daley, he seems like a genuinely nice bloke. Strategically I think he struggles with anything more complex than "the team that finishes with more points will win the game", so I find it hard to take discussions like this, and when he is on NRL 360 seriously.
Still, as Mal has demonstrated so well over the last decade, being a rep coach is different to being a club coach, and if you have the respect of your players, can motivate them well, get them to want to play for each other, and recognise your own short-comings and put the right people in place to do what you can't (e.g. come up with a game plan), then he could be a good representative coach.

Re: State of Origin 2017 Series
I'm extremely nervous.
There's been too much made about the players who are missing from the QLD side - they still have Smith/Cronk/Boyd and a number of other players who can create out of nothing, Gillett and Papalil are both in sensational form so they'll be difficult to stop as well.
NSW need to survive the opening 20 minutes, if we do we win the game. If we don't and we get rattled we won't come back from there - the game will be won in the first 20 minutes.

As you've pointed out, Daley seems like a really decent bloke (for a NSWelshman) but deadset, he has to be one of the worst proponents of mind games in the entire sport.

Would you pay $200 to watch Nate Myles and Jacob Lillyman play football against 17 dumbcunts from NSW wearing a VB logo?

I love that the VB logo thing gets brought up by the Canterbury wearing QLDers. What is their badge again?

Also I just found tickets for the event for $110 - took me two seconds.

But us Queenslanders have friends so have no need to buy single seats.

Canterbury makes the best sports apparel, no shame in wearing that. VB on the other hand....

Laurie Daley’s men have firmed into $1.87 favourites after opening at $2.13. Queensland have subsequently drifted to $1.97.

@dip talking to your other head doesn't count as a friend. That was searched for as a group of 3.

And did you get those 3 tickets for less than $200? If not re-read Ryno's post.

You try playing with the same toy for 11 years. It gets boring (ask my wife).
I mean - fair enough - you dropped it somewhere in the back yard once, and you were concerned, but you know it's going to show up eventually.
Who knows? Perhaps picking a decent team this year may pay dividends? If you win the first game, perhaps you can start talking "dynasty"?
It really doesn't matter though - after a few years of "too old, too slow", you WILL eventually beat us. Then, Cam Smith, with a wry smile on his face, his second hip replacement and a few gold screws in his walker frame, will freely admit that "NSW beat us fair and square".
Face it. If you beat QLD now, it barely matters. I mean , ffs - we're sending Nate Myles back out. GI is dusted. Th press has rounded on the QLD selectors on Slater. No one on the mainland has heard of Lillyman in a sentence that didn't start with "QLD Loyalty", and Milford has been roundly panned as the most over-rated half by all and sundry.
Sorry: NSW wins, and "it's about time". QLD wins, and it's more of the same.

Re: State of Origin 2017 Series
My biggest peeve with origin is the refs ref the game totally differently to how a club game is reffed.
They leg guys lay in the ruck. They let players stay offside all night and split at marker. They let elbows and all sorts of shit go. They let high shots go. All because they are too scared to blow the whistle in an origin game.
I hate the way its reffed.
But really looking forward to the game.
QLD will win. Its cam smiths 40th ffs.

I really hope they keep giving Hayne shit, he's going to use it as motivation. He'll tear them apart.

Ummm sorry mate but last time I checked Hayne wasn't the type of player to grit his teeth and use the criticism as motivation.
He's the bloke that excels when praise is being (overly) lavished upon him.
Textbook fairweather sailor.
Once again QLD picking their battles wisely and winning the war of mind games before a tackle has even been made.
