Its about defence more than attack. Brown would get absolutly smoked by quick back rowers, centres and halves if he was defending at 4th man in. Hes too slow to be out that wide. He is a middle because he is doesnt have the speed and lateral movement in D that guys like Cordner and Crichton have.

In attack, can Brown run good outside in lines? Can he hit holes? can he catch the ball going into contact right away? Does he have the footwork and speed to beat his defender? I dont reckon. He is a good middle. Tough, tackles well with guys basically running straight at him, decent ball player and offload.

Edge players and middle players have totally different skill sets, its nothing like halves playing either side.
Can some blokes do both? sure, just like some players can play hooker or halfback.

Is that why Cordner always has a bunch of missed/ineffective tackles, and rarely beats players with his footwork? I reckon maybe he should be moved to the middle also then, just not for the Blues.

he can hit a pretty fucking good hole consistently.... do you ever see Cordner get beaten on the outside?
Maybe cordner should be moved in closer in the future, but thats why brown cant play out wide. Hes a good middle, he doesnt belong on an edge.
Maybe if he trained there and lost a little weight?

cordner is about as reliable a guy as you can get, was often the only forward getting back to help with a tough run when were stuck in our own end, every other forward was walking back and wondering why we couldn't out of our own end.

runs good lines in attack, plays good edge defense, he has earned his spot and there is no way a middle forward like brown would be in line to take it

maybe talk about brown V's crighton is warranted because frizz should just stay on the edge and JDB can shift tot he edge if an injury occurred (or the peach)

yeah I am not saying he would look out of place playing origin, but he is a middle forward - he would get rekked defending and attacking out on an edge IMO

I don't actually think Brown should be a NSW edge forward for the record.

I may be wrong here but I don't rate Crichton highly at all. Think hes very luckly he is where he is. Theres plenty more players much better than he is not being picked.

I don't know what it is but last year he scored a few tries for the bunnies and everyone is saying hes a superstar.

What about Fitzgibbon? Scored 15 tries in 35 games and in my opinion much much better in defence too.

I don't know maybe its just me

TPJ added to the NSW squad... interesting...
Cook the only hooker..? Unless they are planning at trying Pearce there.

6 new faces in the extended squad TPJ, Nick Cotric, Dale Finucane, Cameron Murray, Ryan James, Luke Keary and Jordan McLean. Keary has said he wants to be a Maroon, he should be sent to SOO exile and never play, Freddy has done well to build pride and someone like Keary doesn't meet the criteria. As for TPJ I feel sorry for him that he is being made to pick between the Blues & Tonga. Something needs to change, if he's eligible for both he should be able to play both. SOO should have nothing to do with which country you play your international career with. I also think TPJ is only there to get a feel and isn't being seriously considered. His game has a lot of improvement before he is SOO ready. While not the be all and end all, some interesting stats:

TPJ (22 yrs): 1,133 (mins), 398 (Tackles), 41 (Missed Tackles)
Farah (34 yrs): (790 mins), 399 (Tackles), 19 (Missed Tackles)

    Extended Origin squad:

    Jack Bird (Brisbane Broncos)
    Reagan Campbell-Gillard (Penrith Panthers)
    Nathan Cleary (Penrith Panthers)
    Josh Addo-Carr (Melbourne Storm)
    Damien Cook (South Sydney Rabbitohs)
    Nick Cotric (Canberra Raiders)
    Boyd Cordner (Sydney Roosters)
    Angus Crichton (Sydney Roosters)
Jack De Belin (St George Illawarra Dragons)
    Dale Finucane (Melbourne Storm)
    Blake Ferguson (Parramatta Eels)
Tyson Frizell (St George Illawarra Dragons)
    Wade Graham (Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks)
    Ryan James (Gold Coast Titans)
    Josh Jackson (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs)
    Luke Keary (Sydney Roosters)
    David Klemmer (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs)
    James Maloney (Penrith Panthers)
    Jordan McLean (North Queensland Cowboys)
    Latrell Mitchell (Sydney Roosters)
    Cameron Murray (South Sydney Rabbitohs)
    Tyrone Peachey (Gold Coast Titans)
    Mitchell Pearce (Newcastle Knights)
    Tevita Pangai Junior (Brisbane Broncos)
    Matt Prior (Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks)
    James Roberts (Brisbane Broncos)
Tariq Sims (St George Illawarra Dragons)
    James Tedesco (Sydney Roosters)
Jake Trbojevic (Manly Warringah Sea Eagles)
Tom Trbojevic (Manly Warringah Sea Eagles)
Paul Vaughan (St George Illawarra Dragons)
    Aaron Woods (Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks) lol!

How are Ryan James and McLean new faces? Weren't they the 18 and 19 last year?

Is Cotric there as a player or is it some kind of "bring your kid to work day"?

Yeah it's a long bow calling them new. I suppose they didn't get a jersey so it's a technicality. But not like they haven't been around the set up before, which is the whole idea of the extended squad.

Shows how much weight that award has.

Orford won an actual Dally M and never played a meaningful rep game.
Preso won one, never played SOO or Aus.
    Lockyer never won one.

Some people claim that Lockyer is the greatest player of all time, or in the very top few, and he never won a Dally M.

    Fkn Lol.

TPJ has committed to NSW apparently.

Not sure how I feel about it. I am all for big names playing for countries of their heritage but to be honest I reckon you should have to be committed to australia to be playing for NSW or QLD. Its a quintessentially australian thing, allowing mercenaries to come in and out pulls at the threads holding it together.

I duno tho.. there are good and bad points for it going both ways.
