2018 NRL Fantasy Draft Top 10 players

G'day All,

Been a 5 year+ fantasy player but new to this forum.

Thought I would start a thread regarding what everyone's Top 10 (or more if you'd wish) draft order would be, i.e. not taking into consideration price! I'll have a crack at mine.

1. Jason Taumololo (doesn't player Origin and no risk of getting rested towards the final rounds, which are the Semi Final & Grand Final for Fantasy Draft)
2. Cameron Smith (only reason he wouldn't be No. 1 is risk of being rested in the most important two final games)
3. Angus Crichton
4. Jack DeBelin
5. Simon Mannering
6. Nathan Brown (I'm tempted to put him above Mannering to be honest!)
7. Andrew McCullough (might take him a few games before he ramps up to 80 mins, but he should do well when it matters in the finals)
8. Shaun Johnson
9. Nathan Cleary
10. Cameron McCinnes (I worry he might lose 10-15 minutes per game with Hunt playing No. 9 and Mann playing No. 6 for a stint)
11. Jake Trbojevic
12. Mitchell Pearce

What do you guys/gals have?

Not sure where, but Tedesco definitely makes my list

Cam Smith has to be no 1 in draft, because even if he isn't the top scorer overall, he is that much better than the next hooker (and certainly much better than any hooker available by the time it gets back to your 2nd pick) that you will end up weaker if you pass him over.

We do mate, there are a few. There are a couple who most people I think don't realise as well.

When it comes to draft DPP is extremely important. It's the only thing that kept me going last season when my squad was being destroyed every week with injuries. It also means you have reserves that cover multiple positions should your players withdraw at the last minute from your starting 13. I also use a strategy of purchasing the top five hookers after Smith. This meant I had players that I could trade for those I wanted. It certainly annoyed #BlueTiges

What would everyone's Top 5 be? I'll be picking in the Top 5 come draft day

Interesting tactic indeed! I certainly won't be looking (or able) to get that many of the top 5 hookers, but it could be worth doubling up if I get a chance.

I've never played the draft version before.

Anyone got any tips?

Back yourself to get the guys you want. If youre in love with a bloke with a ranking in the 5th round, dont be afraid to pull the trigger on him in the 4th. You rate him for a reason. If you spend the whole draft trying to find bargains, youll end up with an side full of guys that werent drafted at their ranking for a reason.

So there's no cap to work with? Each turn can you pick anyone from the system?

Correct. And you can trade any players back to the communal pool of undrafted players aswell. The only cap is the total number of players in your squad, the only thing stopping you from having a team of all the best players is the other blokes in the league picking them before your turn.

Well thanks for that. Guess I should make a list of players I'd ideally like.

I cant speak highly enough of a draft style league. Find them much more enjoyable then the cap league. Much better banter anyways, but it does rely on the whole league being active. 1 or 2 guys dropping out after a month can really fuck it all up.

If you get into a league, before the draft theres a page where you can pre-rank your players to help you when the draft starts. Easier then having a spreadsheet/pen and paper.

Haha, yeah someone basically did that in our L1 last year and left me with Koroisau as my starting hooker.
