Oh ok interesting.
Well thanks for that. Guess I should make a list of players I'd ideally like.
Don't just list the players you would ideally like, make a list of every player, and rank them in the order you would like them.
Don't want to miss out on the best player available because he wasn't on your "ideal" list.
How to draft
1. Only real thing that matters is points. Forget completely any notion of salary cap from the overall comp. Taane Milne might be a great steal in fantasy at base price - but you don't want to touch him in draft if Roberts/Aitken/Aubbs are available.
2. After straight out points, positional scarcity is the next thing to look at. Say you have a choice between Tedesco and Simon Mannering. Mannering should score more points. But if you pick Mannering, when you get to pick a WFB you may have to settle for Tuimoala Lolohea. If you pick Tedesco you may still be able to grab Boyd Cordner as your next 2nd rower. Tedesco and Cordner is better than Mannering and Lolohea.
So just be aware of what scorers are left in each position, and the gap between the best scorer available and the players just below him. This involves some guesswork on who people around you will pick, and becomes more important the more players there are in the comp. (easier to get a good hooker in an 8 team comp than a 12 team comp for example)
Some positions have a shallower depth than others and can make sense to hit up those positions earlier.
3. Consider getting a "handcuff" for key positions. If you get Cameron Smith, look at getting Brandon Smith later in the draft so that if Cam Smith gets injured, you can pout Brandon straight in and you don't suffer too badly in points.
