Will be the most generic and over-picked backline in the history of Fantasy.
But I just can't see myself going any other way.

I think this year teams are more similar than previous years.

Dont know if its the reduced squad size, less viable cheap prospects or something else, but seems like the pool of players that appear in teams is smaller thgan usual

would you play katoa over havili/leilua (if starting 2rf) though? i guess for me katoa is a bit of an unknown. I like to try play known quantities.. which may be to my downfall some times.

I'd look at it on a week by week basis - if one of my CTR/WFB was in doubt, i'd run with the setup i have there - if I was confident they'd all play i'd switch mitchell into my starters for Katoa or Milne.

    Smith (C)
    Taupau Lodge
    NBrown Merrin NAS
    Croft Watson
    HHunt Milne
    Tedesco Ponga Katoa

Cook, Lichaa, Tualau and 1 base price. I have guys like McKendry, Nicholls, Kikau, L Leilua, LCroker, A Doueihi, Aj Brimson, Kennar, Haavili, Garvey all on the watchlist.

At this stage Nicholls, Kikau, Kennar look locked in.

I have a feeling that their will be enough viable cheapies now to fill out my squad just not sure about missing out on JBrom, Alvaro, Arrow, Cartwight, Harris, Whitehead, RFM but also don't see them taking off straight away either. Only Alvaro from that lot plays round 13.

The reasoning behind Taupau and NBrown. Guns in their positions that play Round 13. Set and forget until after then.

Watson, HHunt, Milne, Katoa, Ponga, Cook all play round 13.

I have been doing a little analysis on byes and we will have a maximum of 12 trades after the first bye to churn our squad over and get as many players for round 17.

So 34-12 = 22 left. If say you want to leave 10 after round 17 then we really only have 12 trades to make between after round 1 and the first bye.

This means you need at least 5 players in your squad who you want there round 13. I feel I have NBrown, Taupau, Ponga, Cook and possibly Watson.

Its going to be hard conserving trades early on if you haven't picked the right team in round 1.

Hi @Warriors, been meaning to say for a while, but I've been impressed with your analysis for a couple seasons now. You have a very good, and quite unique balance between statistical analysis and both league and fantasy knowledge. You are an impressive poster mate, and one whom I've gained a lot of knowledge from so cheers.

Im short on time this year so won't be posting much but I have been reading the forum and learning lots as always. A few players that have been consistently chucked out there this year (as value) which Im hoping people could elaborate on a bit more cause the value isn't immediately obvious to me (likely due to my lack of knowledge).

So interested in peoples thoughts on:

    Tohu Harris
    Fafita

and to a lesser extent Merrin.

Convince me why I need them in my team (or otherwise) haha!

Cheers all and good luck for this season!

I've thought about this setup. You mean 14-16 decent DPP scorers and 17-21 basement cheapies?

Yes 1-16 good scorers (including Milne and maybe one other cheap WFB)

17 -21 choose from Leilua, Nicholls, Kikau, Croker, Katoa, Kennar, Garvey and pick 17th player based on form and fixtures.

Im sure some people will run with a 6 cheapie bench, but that's pretty risky. Not much margin for error

    OK, I give up.

Kane Evans is not an option! You were spot on Milchcow!

So as an aside. Who is the best choice out for a potential captain to go along side Nathan Brown

Jack de Belin or Paul Gallen.

This is the last pick to finish my team

In all 3 cases they have average scores in 2014,15,16 that were higher than what they scored in 2017.

People are hoping they'll get beck to their best.

You can make a case either way for how theyll go

Thought id make a team which straight away makes sure I'm looking good for the Rd13 bye and also has minimal SOO reps.

    Smith
    Taupau, Lodge
    Brown, Murray, RFM
    Croft, Cartwright
    Taka, Milne
    Johnston, Ponga, Dufty

    Cook, Liu, Watson

    Nicholls, Leilua, Croker, Kikau, Garvey

Is this a good way to go or unescessary planning?

I am also keen to hear why no-one has mentioned Butcher as a cheap.

By all accounts is destined for higher minutes this year? No?

    Am I missing something?

That looks pretty generic Very Happy

In previous seasons there were 4 reserve spots for WFB/CTR, this season most people will only utilize 1 reserve spot as emergency back-up. Most players will take less risk with their choice and will invest more $$$ into the WFB/CTR positions compasred to previous seasons.

Nope you're not missing something... he hasn't been discussed much, but he's a cheap option

well, if you want to look at it this way - Pay has seen enough and is happy with his 13 / 17 for round 1 and sees no need to risk injury/etc to his top squad. Eastwood probably needs hte fitness returning from injury, and there may be one or two smokies for bench spots among those playing this week.

Is Max King worth a look or is he just covering Wallace at the moment?
