If there's any opposition player coming back from an injury they will target the injury in a tackle whether it be ankle, knee & so on. I think Smith did that to Proctor because Proctor smashed him earlier in the game & hurt him. Smith knew he couldn't hurt Proctor in a tackle so he reverted doing the dirty cheap payback.
