It's quite sad you don't even get excited to absolutely give it to the Broncos supporters. Was a win we were expecting to win and win easy and we did. The game was never in doubt and if not for some horrid reffing the gap would have been wider.

You know the old saying, "the game really flourishes when brisbane are at the bottom of the table"

How bout all this Darius business. Did anyone actually think without Bennett he'd be any good and without a decent team going well around him.
He has had an amazingly successful career for possibly the most overrated player I have ever seen. Absolutely kissed on the dick by a fairy that guy.

I think Darius' career will finish the same way as Inglis, mental health issues will see him retire at the end of this year if not before and Brisbane will get salary cap exemption.
Really, Bennett should agree to take him at Souths, mentally, that would be the best thing for him.

Yes, I hope they take him at Souths so he can cost them a try every game because of his shit defence.

Going from perennial underdogs over performing to playing to their ability. That's the Bronco's story fans would have you believe. In reality Boyd doesn't miss MCK in the Tigers game, doesn't miss Ramien in the Newcastle game and although it was 8 point difference it was a pivotal moment the miss on Taylor in the Titans game. Now the Broncos are on the cusp of the 8 and over achieving again.
I think I've worked out the formula. Can someone send me the team song (and check on OSM, because even I worry sometimes).

He was a bloke that was very very good at his role. His role was to sweep out the back and read the 3 on 2. It was never more never less. In rep teams, it was to not drop the ball and score in the corner. No more no less (99% of the time).
His talk in defense was always mentioned as being good but really - any first great fullback should be elite at that.
He also has been absolutely dreadful in teams when the side wasn't going well. Has never been a good kick returner, never been super fast, never been a good broken field runner and never been a good leader.
I agree, he should do a trade with a souths player. Then bennett can get him to retire and claim the cash as a medical retirement and free up more room in the cap

it's telling just how much Boyd is tarnishing his career by playing on that people are comfortable convincing themselves he was never any good in the first place, luck accounts for things like Sione Mata'utia being an Australian rep, you don't accrue the amount of accolades and achievements he has being average.
He said a couple years ago that he'd know when the time had come for him to retire, he's already proven that wrong, when it's crosses the threshold where your own teams fans have taking to laughing at how bad you are, surely the realization has to wash over at some point, or hell, apparently Wayne will take any player we drop to QLD cup, it's at least time for the club to give that a go.

Everything I said is correct - he was never amongst the best in terms of speed, broken field running, kick returning and leading. He is also dreadful when a side isnt going all that well. Its been demonstrated time and time again.
He was however, very very good at his role - summing up the 3 on 2 and throwing the last pass, prob even the best we have seen at it. Aside from that, he was very safe and his defense was never really questioned.
Great left winger in a rep side - but Vallentine holmes proved that just being on the left wing outside of the immortals gets you tries.
At his peak, he isnt half the player Tedesco is or slater was. But then again not many are

something i feel like just throwing out there to think on - officially, 2016 could be considered his best representive year, being as he won his only individual rep accolade in that year, The Ron McAuliffe medal for being the QRL Maroons player of the series, in a winning year no less - he won that honor playing fullback for all 3 games.

And Hayne won it from the wing for NSW.
I mean ... thats a great achievement, but he also played in what, 25 other games on the wing and never won any awards.
Im not saying he was shit (even though he was for Newcastle and has been ever since going back to Brisbane pretty much). He was elite at his role - sweeping out the back and reading the 3 on 2. His defence was apparently great too. Besides the 3 on 2, he never did anything better than any of the other top-shelf fullbacks.
Honestly though, and please be honest with yourselves - If you could choose someone to play fullback for your club, not for 1 rep game, for a season - would you pick Peak Boyd over peak Inglis, Slater, Tedesco, Lockyer? No. Fuck I would even pick Tommy Trbo over him, he is a much more complete Fullback than Boyd ever was. Minichello was a more complete fullback.

Brett Mullens, Tim Brasher, Gary Belcher, Dale Shearer, Matt Ridge ...... Boyd wouldn't even make the top 10 SOO fullbacks

So what your saying is Pieman.....he could read the 3 on 2 we'll??
Looking at FBs from the last couple of decades, For one season at FB at their peak you wouldn't have Boyd ahead of, in no particular order:
Lockyer
Slater
Inglis
Stewart
Mini
Hayne
Tedesco
Have I missed any? Barba even maybe.

Depends on the rest of the team. If you had some deadset attacking weapons at centre/5.8th, Id take Boyd over peak anybody-not-named-Billy-or-Darren. Defensively, he was that good at his best (now he's obviously an oxygen thief). If your centres/5.8th are a bit meh, or defensively minded, youd take anybody else to put some tries on the board.
Dragons when they won the comp had Cooper/Gasnier/Sowie - an strong attacking FB wouldn't improve the side much at all, they are already going to score truckloads of points. If they didnt have Boyd, theyd have been swiss cheese in defence and would have gotten rolled. Stewart is the only Blue close to him, defensively, but Id give a points decision to Boyd purely on that criteria. As a complete player, Boyds better then KGidley (14. (c)) but Im struggling to find anyone else at rep level from the last 15-20 years.

All i'm saying is to throw a 2-time premiership winner and a Clive Churchill medalist, who's played 28 games for QLD and 23 games for Australia, into a basket as a below average player who caught passes from GI is grossly underselling how good he was, no matter how much he embarrasses himself this year.

As a complete player - what... he was a better fullback than Gidley, but gidley was a better hooker, halfback and 6. Quite comfortably.

He was a rep winger that did his job, no more no less. Any thousand wingers who have played the game could have done what he did, he was just lucky to be playing at a time when he got to sit outside of the best players of all time.
He played what, 24 of his SOO games on the left wing and what 22 of his Aus games on the left wing. Good left winger that did his job well. Saying he is anything more than a very good role player (especially in those rep teams) is grossly overstating how good he was.

Lets be honest here, notwithstanding that Boyd has been shit all season and average at best last season. People who support teams that have been starved of success the last 15 years (eg Newcastle, Parramatta and NSW) have a pretty groggy memory of how things were, and probably due to success craving dillusions, seem to make up shit and can't be convinced otherwise. A bit like the people who think Andrew Johns was the greatest Origin halfback of all time despite only winning 7 of his 16 starts there, the stats just don't support their argument.
Poor old Pieman also compares his achievements to what Valentine Holmes has done saying that Holmes scored all those tries outside an immortal (ie Inglis). This is the same Valentine Holmes who only scored 2 tries when on the wing outside of Inglis. No more than he scored outside Gagai (in twice as many matches) and half as many as he scored outside Chambers (in the same amount of matches).
The difference between these sort of people, and the people who don't need to stroke their ego by making up stuff to cover their own insecurities because they've supported winning teams (eg QLD supporters) is that people who support winning teams are comfortable enough giving credit where it is deserved, even if towards the end of their career they were solid players at best. Take Jarryd Hayne for instance. His stint at the Titans and second stint at Parra and NSW were not fantastic, but almost all QLDers are prepared to acknowledge that for quite a few years Hayne was one hell of a player. Same story with guys like Akuila Uate (but for a much shorter time frame).
So that said, lets look at the facts:
1. Made his NRL debut as an 18 year old. Despite being in a star studded team that ultimately won the premiership, he was a regular in the team playing 27 times in his first season, and played more than a third of the regular season at Fullback in a team that contained Karmichael Hunt and Justin Hodges at fullback that year.
2. RLPA Rookie of the Year
3. Two time premiership player
4. Clive Churchill Medallist
5. RLPA Player of the Year
6. Ron Macauliffe Medalist
7. 28 State of Origins, including 9 series wins
8. 2nd most tries scored all time in origin
9. 23 tests for Australia (almost 40% of them at Fullback, where only once did a team get within 2 converted tries)
10. Winningest test player ever with a 23-0-0 record.
11. World Cup Winner
12. Over 300 NRL Games, Over 360 Games when rep and WCC included
13. World Club Champion
The guy has one of the best resume's ever in Rugby League. Was he one of the all time greats? No, but for those who say a dozen others could do what he did, the simple answer is "but they didn't".
