I think we should be careful about using the phrase "must have"

So far there are only 3 players I would consider a must have. Cook, Haas and Nikora.
At a stretch you might want to include Ponga since his move back to fullback.
DCE and Bateman might be on that list if they didn't get injured.
For FRF, 2RF and HLF there are a lot of players scoring good points and/or good value that no single player is essential to a good score (other than Haas for how cheap he was to start)

TTRbo in particular, has played less than 2 games this year due to injury.
He has to be able to come back and play a game injury free to be considered for selcetion at all, let alone a must have.
To be a 'must have' he will have to score so much higher than Teddy, Ponga and RTS that you can not cover the loss of points, even by saving cash to spend elsewhere.

There are a lot of halves that are scoring well this year. To be a must have DCE will need to maintain his high average after returning from injury.
We have a lot of scoring history for DCE to suggest he might struggle to stay as high as he is now.
There are so many other options that I think half is the position where we are least locked in to having a certain player and can get a 'POD' for cheaper that won't greatly harm our scoring.
Getting in Pearce at his bottom would have been the best move, but too late now.

McInnes was numbner 1 on my R13 trade-ins until Robson appeared. Is he going to be like Farah now, playing 80 some weeks and getting rests in others?
I'm not sure if we want to give it a few weeks to make the call. Short term his price is ony going to go up thanks to his 90 last week.
Might just have to make a gut call on what he'll do going forward

The point of my post was not so much about highlighting specific players we need to get, rather it was to highlight a decision we need to make now. That is, do we trade once this week and as a result focus on putting together a final 17? Or do we trade twice, the second trade to generate some money, and attempt to position ourselves for a final 18 (with the bonus of adding another round 12 score).

If we dont make that call this week, by default, it looks to me like we will end up with the former (17) option.

I prefer the later to be honest because it gives you depth you can use to cover short term injuries (rather than being forced to trade), provides a decent loop option, and in someone like Havili should nab you an extra 40 points or so this week.

Who we trade in and when, whether you wanna call them 'must haves' is something that we can sort out later.

My vote at this stage would be to grab Havili for Lomax and Britain for Lawrie

If we do bring Bateman in, who makes way?

Xerri seems to be the obvious choice, or maybe Dearden

Or forego Brittain and just take Havili/Bateman as 2 tradeins this week

Also if we trade out Xerri and Lomax (a real possibility) do we have plans to get CTR cover in later or just trust in Bateman/Nikora to play every week

Not sure mate. A few things to think through. Important decision as well. Lets hope Bateman doesn't start and we dont have to worry.

For me it would depend on how much money we would be forgoing by training either Xerri or Deardon now as opposed to prior to 17... If that amount is comparable to the expected gains from Havili then there's no point grabbing all three IMO.

    I have made the trades

    Lawrie - Havili
    Lomax - Brittain

all relevant players in our 14-21 so we should be able to reverse if we need to change our mind
no need to make a decision on Bateman today. None of the relevant players will lock out tonight

Down the road I would assume Burns would be a target, he can cover centres and wfb

Yeah, I dont mind Burns at all. In fact injury free he is possibly one of the best 18th men candidates going around.

By the way, AFB not looking like such a poor decision now huh!

Up to 284th overall, and back on top of the celebrity league.

    Trades this week.

First option is whether we get McInnes or not. if we want him, its this week. If we are worried Robson will eventually have an impact on him, we don't have time to wait or his price will go up too much.

RTS, I think we wait a week for cash purposes.

If we want another R16 gun we really need a half - currently we are either playing Dearden or Sivo in our 17.
Milf or Pearce are the best options. I am reluctant to get Pearce given he was available $200k cheaper, and he's been on a massive try scoring run to boost his average recently that will surely come to an end at some point. Or TTrbo if he is named this week and we are happy with Ponga in halves for a bit.

We also don't have 2RF cover at the moment (unless we want to play Xerri as a starter)

Guys like Twal, Matterson, KBrom also come into consideration but if we want McInnes I think a half takes preference for our 2nd trade

    For Trade outs
    Young is gone.
if Peats is named Rein is gone.

Mahoney might be an option to go soon too.

Lol CK and Scout scoring in the low 500s in the first bye. I thought they were supposed to know how to play this game.

I suspect they mostly care about H2H results. They can't win overall so just try and win a bunch of H2H leagues

Milf in seems the obvious option though I still think he'll be playing origin this year.

I'm bringing Milf & McInnis into my own team so I'd be a hypocrite to suggest anyone else.

You really think Milf gets Origin 3? DCE, Munster, Morgan only get dropped wirh injury imo. 14 slot is possible, but don't see it happening.

Seems like we'll need to be flexible this week. Lots of uncertainty aroudnwho will actually take the field and who won't this week.

I think the priority this week should be maximising our week 13 points. Fill the gaps where they exist.

If Cook is out, I'd be inclined to keep Young and loop Brittain.

If Ponga is out, I think we should either pick up a half (milford) or WFB (RTS).

If we dont have any pressing issues then McInness looks like a good pick up as would Milford or what ever half the forum votes for.

If we are worried about time, it wouldnt hurt to chuck up a few polls separated by position. I.e. if we were to get a half this week who would it be: Milford, Pearce, DCE etc.

Same for WFB: RTS, TTrbo, etc

and then perhaps one for the rest: McInness, Matterson, etc

We're on 837 with McInnes to play.

Dearden was a tough one, but at least we didn't trade him in this week.
We probably should have moved Rein to our NPRs with Peats returning, Havili and Xerri both outscored him and we don't get their scores.

    Up to 212th overall.

Yeah, was a bit of a bugger, both those situations. In my personal team I traded in Dearden.... Sad

Rein was a tough one though. I thought the coach said he was gonna start. Oh Well. That only lost us 10 points as Im assuming we would have started Havilli and not Xerri.

With Rein and Peats, Brennan only said they would both be in the 17 (maybe he used the word 'starter' to refer to just being in the 17, as the nuances aren't always grasped by non Fantasy players)

I think the assumption was that Arrow was in doubt and Peats might be playing lock for Arrow.

Not the worst decision of the year.
