Just another dimension. How many positive stories become so public?

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11887811

I doubt many heard this story but the good things league players do rarely makes it as big as the bad. This story alone has put CNK into my team lol negative news sells though

But regarding the negative stuff, the players need to grow up and realise that boys club, "I'm a god" culture is not cool. If the stories are true, prison time. It's a shame and a waste but JDB and Hayne aren't teenagers. They're adults. They should know better

Love it! If only Barba had got himself sacked a bit earlier we might have been able to sign him.

As much as I hate the crisis media merchants, they will publish what gets clicks/views, and it is proven that negativity & drama does that.

We the public can change things if we stop consuming rubbish, and stop contributing it. For example.. rumour of another "video" last week and it spread like wildfire through social media.. and it was all bullshit! Why was everyone talking about it?

Sidenote - I unfollowed alot of the dickhead media (Buzz, the "mole", the telegraph pages, etc), and its been so much better.

Not sure if this has been posted, but add it to the rumour pile re Nikora nabbing a spot.

Gallen: “I like the look of Briton Nikora on the right edge at training, he’s a player of the future. Training and games are very different things but he’s doing everything right. Then you’ve got [Kurt] Capewell, [Scott Sorensen] fighting so we’ve got good competition for spots and the opportunity for someone to step up and take their chance.”

Yeah I just stopped watching the news altogether. It's all bad news and adds nothing to your life.
The problem with media is that it blows up sporting people to be gods and gives them way too much publicity. I personally couldn't give two shits about how much drinking or recreational drugs players do in their spare time. As long as they aren't hurting anyone of course. These generally arent smart people. They are people who are good at running into other people at high speeds. If only the media would just let them do their thing and leave them alone...

Same here. Only follow it somewhat for investing and NRL (relevant to the sport and comp, not drama)

I've just realised that the Melbourne Good Beer Week gala session that I have a ticket for is the first Friday of the season.

I'll be drinking a reasonable amount from 5pm onwards.

Drunken trading/team tinkering that early in the season is going to be very costly. Sad

I agree on the above. You also have to remember most league players are thick & dumb. That's why they're league players & not lawyers. Most of them act on impulse without thinking about the consequences like you & I would. In fact you could hold them down, hit them in the head with a sledge hammer 10 times, tell them not to drink alcohol & play up but they will still do it.

I don't care who gets named out of Capewell/Sorensen and Nikora, I just want to be able to trust that whoever it is keeps their spot and doesn't get dropped in round 2.

Is Bukuya considered a middle forward now, or is he in contention too?

I understand your frustration with the media and I agree it does seem like they take any chance they can get to dogpile the Greatest Game, but we really do need to hold our players to the highest standard on sexual and domestic violence. 1.25% might seem low when you think about the general population but it is absolutely not good enough for professional athletes, who command huge salaries and fame in part because they are inherent role models that people look up to and admire.

I honestly don't give a fuck if Todd Carney pisses in his own mouth and you can equate that with blue collar roughness as much as you like, it doesn't bother me. Sexual or domestic violence is another matter completely though, and I'm happy for the media to beat the shit out of the NRL all day long until that 1.25% becomes 0%

    Fantastic post mate.

This would be great if Nikora does grab a 2rf spot, I can imagine he’d probably shoot past Lomax on ownership if it the case.

I only just saw yesterdays news that Simmonsson was upgrade from a development contract to the full squad, must have really impressed in a short period. To go from a 1 year development contract late Dec 2018 to a 2 yr full squad contract less than 3 months later... maybe its not so crazy to think he ends up in the team list come week 1.

Me too mate, also got off FB a while ago too. Social media, media in general, politicians and many others are polarising society more than ever IMO (some intentionally, others just a product of the way things work). Either way its making for a bunch of people that dont think for themselves anymore. Fucks me off so I try and stay away from it all. Except this forum which I can't help but let drag me in on the odd occasion lol.

BTW, Would be stoked if Fotuaika got a start - he was one of the first players on my watch list from last year. The kid is a beast. Milchy's stats show he doesn't need many to put up tremendous scores... will watch that one closely!

Not sure about this year but start of last year lewis was out injured and Gallen also missed the first game. Bukuya played lock and Capewell on an edge. In that game Katoa broke his jaw and Capewell shifted to the wing.

The next game Gallen was back and Bukuya started on an edge. Capewell got 10 mins off the bench.

So not sure if Bukuya plays middle we Gal not there but moves to an edge if Gal is there

It's league culture. Don't see this shit in Rugby Union, except Julian Savea and then play ups Aaron Smith.

Anyway, anybody thinking about running with low to mid 2RFs on the bench? CHN, Stimson and Mata'utia look good. Mata'utia looking buff and impressing during the preseason. CHN likely left Penrith for a starting position, and Stimson has already been talked about

CHN and Stimson will probably be decent bench options, read a bit on Sione but even when he played 2rf his ceiling and average wasn’t that great, don’t think there’s enough value there given his starting price.
