Gillette may get the Lock spot and Ofa could share some time in the middle. The thing that bothers me is where does Su'a fall in the combination and how does the (dual forward roles) work. I dont think there'll be an 80 minute edge role on offer but possibly for someone like Glenn or Defeater could spend 50 on an edge and 15-20 in the middle?

How many subs this year? 8 or 6? Would think 1 edge would have to go 80, Su'a might not even make the 17 some weeks given Gillette could just push out from lock.

Still 8. If macca stays on the field for 80 then there is flexibility for subbing the forwards. But then you've also got Staggs, who I think will get more game time than the Souths utility did last season.

Apparently Graham is on 750k. I could see Bukuya being cheap because he went for the stint to the warriors for a year. Like I am not saying they don't have guys who would hit that mid-level paycheck but certainly guys that aren't breaking the bank.

How d you even remember stuff like that? haha i completely forgot he buggered off over there

I was really high on Bukuya at the time, with enough minutes the guy is a workhorse and I remember around that time I was thinking he could become a gun. He never did, disappointed over in NZ with no real impact and then was picked back up by the Sharks on the cheap imo. I really liked the idea of him replacing Gallen.

Why do you think that? I have to be honest in I haven't watched much from Staggs, but they had a guy like Douhei on the bench who looked brilliant throughout the year relegated to like 10 minutes at best stint.

Its probably just bias, but Staggs is a gun. Douhei obviuosly good too, I guess. I think Staggs has a bit more flexibility, a bit like a Tyrone Peachey, where he will break open a game with a bit of brilliance.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't have any idea how the minutes will end up in our pack this season. lol!

"Parramatta Eels Club hooker Reed Mahoney has been upgraded from his development contract and extended for another year until the end of the 2020 season. "

Surprised he wasn't on a full contract yet. He wouldn't have been able to start at 9 if he wasn't on a full contract?

Could be signs of the Luke drama being overplayed and Mahoney on the brink of a permanent role in the club

Yeah could read it either way, either Luke is coming and they wanted to secure him, or Luke isn't coming and they needed to confirm his role going forward.

Looks like Eels would still have one spot left in their top 30 for 2019, so Luke may be a possibility still.

    https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/11/02/2019-nrl-rosters-official-squads-announced-for-all-teams/

This lists 28 players for the Eels. Dylan Brown and Mahoney have since been upgraded, but Norman from that list has been released.

Its has an interesting flow so far across these threads. Our teams massively converged but seem to be drifting apart at the moment (then converging on TLT!). Lots of different approaches firming up - guns and rookies, stacked hookers (yum), stacked FRF etc. I don't know where I'm going with this. Erm, keep it up!

Mahoney has just re-signed with Eels till 2020. I guess they’re not going to go Luke or perhaps it’s so they don’t lose him while they sign Luke

Why am I not seeing Crichton in anyone's team? He's in mine. Know he's been injured but he was close for WCC two weeks ago, should be fine for start of season and in Cronk's channel. Am I missing something?

Just had a look at the Broncos pack for the Trial and tried to deduce the minutes situation (incl. TPJ)
    8. Lodge (45)
    9. Macca (80)
    10. Ofa (55 shared at lock)
    11. Glenn (50)
    12. Fifita (60)
    13. Gillette (70 shared between lock and 2rf)
    14. Staggs (i believe wont interupt the forwards rotation)
    15. Sua (35)
    16. TPJ (50 at FR)
    17. Flegler/Fensom (35)

    Just IMO

He didn’t have big ownership last season either, there was doubt as to how he would be played considering he’d already signed with the enemy. The case could be made that people are uncertain how he will go now that he’s there, although the most obvious reason in my eyes is the abundance of value in his position.
