With Cook, I think if you've Captained him all year you've actually done better than it feels. I paid the premium so I wouldn't have to worry about spinning the roulette wheel every week. It actually has pretty much paid off.
Cook is the 5th highest scorer thus far. DCE and Cam are both not even half a point better; Bateman and Fifi around 1.5 points better. The amount of people who would have Captained Bateman all year would be miniscule, and I doubt any serious players would have been that brave Round 1. Not that many more for DCE from Round 1 I wouldn't think. Fifi had the injury scare, and I know a few kept the faith, but a lot would have taken the armband off him for at least that Round.
So Cam, Cook, and to a lesser degree Fifi would be the 3 that most people may have Captained all year. Between Cam and Cook there is just over 1 point difference over the ENTIRE 7 Rounds (not each Round, just over 1 point gain through the whole freaking lot). So I'd call that evens. Fifi for the 7 Rounds has gained you an extra 10 points in total over the entire 7 Rounds. 10 points is nominal, but yeah, it's still an extra 10 points.
Then there are probably 3 generic scenarios for those who have played Captain's Roulette:
-they chose the right C every week and could be 100 or more points to the better;
-they chose wrong every week and are 100 or more points worse off;
-they had a mix and are roughly no better or worse off.
No idea how you could even suggest a percentage of those who did the above, but I haven't seen a single person say they have got the C right every week on here, which could loosely be extrapolated to the general Fantasy community (no doubt there would be the rare few who have jagged it).
For me, I'm glad I have stuck with Cook. My hair has really started thinning lately and deciding a C on Thursday arvo's won't help. (The good thing I have found about thinning hair though is when it's a grey one that falls out never to grow back then it's a small victory each and every time
)
Happy for my maths to be destroyed here if there is something I have glaringly missed, it's never been my strong point. Naturally people have different combos of players, so this would be in a perfect world where you have all of those in your team to choose from. And naturally there are other high scorers for a Round outside these 5
TL;DR: Yes we wanted more, but Cook has still been a great C option; personally I am finding picking and sticking a balanced reward; and getting old sucks.
