What do we think of the Panthers this year? In recent seasons they have started the year off terribly, but there has been a lot of off-field drama mixed in. It seems as though they've had a quiet (in a good way) pre-season this time round and things are fairly settled.

They tried swapping Cleary and Maloney (last year?) and that just didnt work. The two of them just never really clicked on-field. Now that Cleary has sole control, that could be a good thing for their side.
They now have a settled hooker after being unable to find a solution last season. I think they could start the season quite strongly.

Their backs aren't very good and their only attacking plan was to give it to Kikau. How much was down to the lack of a hooker, I don't know. Likely 9-12th but can easily see them finishing 13-16th.

Edit: looking at their opening fixtures - Roosters, Dragons (a), Storm, Broncos, Raiders. The over/under there is 1 from 5.

You’ve got a bit to say about the Bunnies destined for failure this year. Sam, Sutton and George may as well not have even been in the side last year, they played that little football, or when they did it was a few minutes or they were busted, yet Souths made the prelim final....again. They had no positive impact whatsoever.

I’ll give you 3-1 about Souths missing the 8, for $50.

I’ll give you even money about Souths missing the Top 4 for another $50.

You can have either or both....or back in your shell.

They’re one of the favourites to win the Comp. And rightly so. They’ve got a better pack this year than last, plus the best backline in the Comp. Depth galore.

Not to mention we won the Jersey Flegg and made the prelim final in both Reggies and U20’s. If they still had a club championship, Souths win it easily. Best depth the Comp.

Now anti up and take the bet or shoosh.

Haha if I'm picking one, it's Luciano pending TLT. But I'm pretty confident on Levi. No other specialist hookers around, and nobody to fill the Fainu role. They only have Croker and Cust to give him a breather. I think he might start slow until AFB and Jurbo are back but will do quite well. Slow burned but I'm expecting 45+

I will be interested to see how Ipape goes in the 9s for Manly. Could be a bolter onto the bench if he plays like he did for PNG again.

He is not part of their top 30 (or even on the dev list) so wont be playing NRL unless they release someone and upgrade him

I'm warming to Levi but wondering if Des liked the Koro/Fainu split enough to try something like that again.  Seems unlikely as Cust and Croker aren't specialist hookers.  If there is an injury to a back during a game Cust/Croker would come on and Walker may move out wide youwould think which could see Levi play the game out.
