Good point, but it feels like a few years since they’ve had a good hooker to me even if that’s not the case lol.....rhinoceroo wrote:
Finally? They had Grant last year and one of the best hookers in the world for a decade before that, not that it did them a hell of a lot of good.

O'Brien has been very vocal about having an 80 minute hooker to make his forward rotations work. I'd still be surprised if Watson starts at lock over Barnett but will have to wait and see

No drafts for me at all. So much new info comes out in Feb that I know previous years the first 10 drafts I make are never really anywhere near the final product. Injuries, reports on roles, minutes, who is getting what spot, what a bench will look like, I just don't see a lot of point messing with drafts so early unless it's just for fun and you have free time on your hands.
My early drafts tend to be about combinations rather than the actual players. If I go with multiple gun halves, what kind of sacrifices do I have to make in the forwards. If I go 3 gun WFB, where do i have to sacrifice. How many of the top tier can I fit in without having a garbage squad
EDIT: This is all so that come TLT I've run through most of the scenarios and don't need to panic

I'm doing a similar thing, a little play around to look at potential squad balances (but am fairly confident on where I will spend the big dollars).
Other than that, am going to put together a few ranked selections in price brackets, so come TLT it's a bit easier to narrow down on a starting line up, especially as there's little more than 48 hours to pin it down at that point.
At the moment I feel like it's just too far out to put any real effort into a likely starting 21 (there will be injuries, bolters, even signings and transfers between now and March 11).

I threw my squad together with the usual set up that i go for each year. One gun in hok, mid, edg, and hlf position, then all the cheapies i like, then the best value for the rest. Only difference this year (so far) is that i was able to fit tedesco in quite easily (for now).. obvs tlt and other factors may change things but thats a future me problem. I may go cold on tedesco tbh in favour of another gun elsewhere and hope for the price drop before picking him up..

I also ended up with Tedesco after having ~600k leftover with a squad I was happy with.
Main questions now are around the big gun origin players like Tedesco, Cleary, Haas. These guys will be at the top of their position all year so if you don't start with them when do you grab them? Hard to win it all going 2/3 of the season without the best scorer in their position

Cleary was miles ahead of 2nd best half last year. What odds he does that again. I suspect the gap between him and DCE/Moses will narrow.
With the swap to MID/EDG Haas is no longer miles ahead of next best in his position (he's not even the best in his position any more)
You are going to need to start with some of the big money players, just going to be important picking the right ones.

Er... no. It was a rumour from a week ago. Don't think there's been anything beyond that, in fact Matt Elliott has been on air talking up McInnis and Terry Matterson talking up McCullough.
To be fair, Matt Elliott was talking up literally everyone at the dragons. It was basically one big 'training the house down' and was hard to get concrete information out of anything he said.

Thoughts on RFM?
Averages 53 points when playing 80 minutes last year. Priced at 46 after not starting last year. Should be starting in the second row.

Can Munster close the gap to DCE, Cleary this season? Most will be starting with him as their gun half

I reckon Cleary can maintain what he did last year. He is so professional at such a young age and has room to improve. His team also made the grand final and I reckon the team's desire to do it again will still be there. His age could work against him however. He stuffed me up last year when he got those snaps with the blondes and got suspended, so who knows what else he might get up to.

My dad was a Souths fan, he grew up in Maroubra. Not a hardcore fan but claims he was at the 1965 GF, but I suspect it’s one of those ones everyone does so who knows for sure?
So I was a Souths fan when I started watching - 1989 (earliest game I vividly remember is the loss to the Raiders before the GF) and 1990
Then in early 1991, he took me to my first live game. Souths coming to Wollongong to play the Steelers - they got pumped and it was Steelers forever after.
Dragons are ok I guess

I am enjoying that many decades of “oust Doust” and we were never in the mess that is now
It really is a delusional club with a delusional fanbase - one decade of dominance when residency rules applied and there were unlimited tackles - average before and 55 years of being a pretty average team ever since
When the Steelers and Dragons coexisted they had the same number of premierships.

Didn't he score a lot of tries last year to save his scores? I dont see much upside personally

IMO DCE at 100k cheaper than Cleary is the way to go, especially if he gets goal-kicking.
Cleary had a fkn insane year last season, I'd be very surprised if he replicates another 70 average.

agree he had a monster year and had so much good luck along with it he will come out on top again imo just not by such a massive margin

priced at 31, averages 30.8 at fullback with a 1 50+ score and a highest score without a try of 41. He's moved from one of the best attacking sides to one of the worst. What upside are you seeing?

He's moved from one of the best attacking sides to one of the worst. That is the upside for me he is going from a team loaded with strike and big names and leaders if you will that command the ball etc to a new side where he can actually take on a bigger role I rate his talent and think him and flano will create something quite good this year

We still havent seen the rookie backs that come up every year, they will change things significantly
