Nathan Peats is currently without a club, I don't see why Manly aren't trying to sign him? (I assume one of the chief reasons is salary cap) Or someone else that is an actual hooker.

But it seems crazy to go into the season without a recognised player in one the most important positions on the field.

Its surprising they dont sign just about anyone on base wage eg even someone like roache or randall (realise they are on dev contracts at their club but im sure theyd leave in a heartbeat to play NRL)

Peats doesnt have a contract as far as i know so its not like he can demand too much.

I guess they tried the ‘pick the shittest specialised HOK tactic’ with Levi last year and don’t want to try it again

Didn't they pretty much break the bank to keep the Turbro's from joining the Dogs last year? DCE also the highest paid NRL player, think they resigned Suli, Manase and Garrick recently also after career years. Maybe money is a bit tight... mind you Randall would suit they're play style to a T.

Guess this year we get to see how that compares to the "just chuck our 3rd half into hooker" tactic

They still have roster spots to fill tho and they have to be min wage (think its 100 or 120k) at very least which is double what the two i mentioned can earn. Obvs they arent proven nrl players but neither are their current options

I guess des is extremely confident that Fainu will be able to play again sooner rather than later..

In his last 116 games over six seasons SST has a career avg of 42.7. This includes 0.8 worth of GK so 41.9 without it, so claims of being a 40 point player are already tenuous. He has of course, improved over the years moving from a bench player to pack leader. Even just filtering by games over 30 minutes improves that average to 45.6 but that still includes a crap tonne of games off the bench a few years ago. Filtering by prop (his current role) improves it to 46.4. But of course more recent stats are the best thing to go by and 2019 prop over 30 minutes is 49.5 and 2020 at prop over 30 min is 54 ppg. GK part-time would see him push towards high 50s. Now lack of Radley could be behind some of these numbers, but most likely his growth as a player, forward leader, and the six again rules I would think have more to do with it.

The point is, the chance of SST becoming a 40 point player I think is extremely low barring injury.

The real question is whether priced at 50 he has any upside. Personally I think he'll continue on like last year scoring well with decent minutes, but get rested with shorter minutes every so often if there's a blow out. That's makes him a few points undervalued if he kicks when he's on the field. Enough to pick him? I don't know, maybe.

I don’t think I’d be confident picking SST at this stage.

I can see some upside, but really reluctant to pick a Roosters forward with the way Trent manages them. Random restings, often on game day so you have to be permanently switched on. JWH or SST sometimes don't come back on for second stints in blowouts. GK might be worth 4-6 a game but, as others have said, don't think having ten minutes extra of a 75% kicker over a 70% kicker is enough to disrupt the Roosters game plan to give your starting prop those extra minutes.

I’m struggling with my 2nd Half. Would you go Lam or CHT or Brooks? I just can’t trust Brooks but I hope he pulls his finger out this year!

Forum seems to be going with Brooks but much prefer the unmentioned Morgan at the same price, especially if partnered with Drunkwaiter not Clifford. Clear 50+ point player if he can stay injury free.

That said, Lam could be even better value and the question for me is Munster vs Morgan+150k

I'm liking the look of a pairing of Moses and Fogarty. Both score well. Both play the first bye. And Fogarty might go a bit higher. I don't have much confidence in Brooks or Milford and I know virtually nothing about LAM or Averillo. I like having confidence in my halves.

Roosters have applied for representative salary cap relief for Cordner (source nrl.com). That means that he is going to miss a minimum 12 games, and also that someone thinks the Roosters have a salary cap.

Anyway, I’d probably be interested if Butcher got the edge spot but I guess it would be Tupouniua.

What makes some people think Fogarty can keep up this keeper like scoring? If he plays on the other side of the field which is the talk will that affect him in anyway?
