I found this article to be rather amusing.... after some howlers last year in the bunker and wanting to cut costs, the ex-player reps in the bunker have been removed.
"The move is certain to result in more confusion and frustration for fans, with many of the men in the box not having a "feel" for the game.
Four ex-players - Ben Lowe, Beau Scott, Bryan Norrie and Ben Galea - helped the refs last year and often clashed with them over decisions.
The refs felt that the players didn't understand the rules, while the players felt the refs didn't use "football sense", adding to the problems between the two groups."

Its no wonder we got some terrible decisions last season and they often took forever to decide.

TIGERS KEEPING TABS ON HASTINGS
There has been a strong rumour doing the rounds for the past week that talented halfback Jackson Hastings is poised to join the Wests Tigers.
Hastings has been the star No.7 in England over the past couple of seasons and has been back in Oz during the holiday period.
Throw in that the Tigers have lost two veteran playmakers in Benji Marshall and Josh Reynolds - and question marks remaining over Luke Brooks - and it seems a perfect fit.
But I've done some digging and it seems that Hastings is set to see out the second year of his contract with Super League club Wigan.
After that, however, the classy halfback is likely to be ready to come home - and don't be surprised if the Tigers are first in line for his services.
Technically, the Tigers didn't lose Marshall and Reynolds - they wanted them off their Roster.
It's full of supposition, so don't be surprised if they're not interested - I remember Madge saying that part of the reason for not retaining Marshall was that they simply couldn't have another half on their books (in terms of squad balance).
Just my opinion, but I don't think Hastings will be in the 30 let alone the 13...

I'm a little mystified why people think he will get a significant boost in his Kick Metres?
Over the past 7 years in 70+ minute games (142 of them) he's averaged 233KM.
His average over the past 3 years playing next to Benji is 256KM
His average over the past 3 years when playing without Benji is 265KM (essentially barely any difference).
His average prior to Benji coming to the club was 214KM.
He's kicked over 400 metres in a game on 6 occasions across 142 games.
He's kicked over 300 metres in under 30% of his games (to put that into context, Milford's quiet year last year where his KM's were massively down, still had him kicking over 300KM in just over 30% of his games). There's no real point comparing him to the big KM halves, because it's just not even close to being comparable.
Benji's average playing next to Brooks was 195KM.
Adam Doueihi averaged 235KM from 5 games playing in the halves - which suggests he is at the very least competent enough to keep doing in-play kicking - so there's no real reason that I can see why Luke Brooks should suddenly dominate the kicking.
I'd also mention that the pre-season "It's Luke Brooks' team to run" has become an annual press release for a number of years now...
Don't get me wrong, I think Brooks should have upside, a little from slightly reduced minutes last year (still averaged 70 minutes per game), but it seems to me that any upside is most likely to be from boosting other attacking stats back to their normal levels? - which kind've makes it a hunch pick
Damn @easytiger, now you've just thrown a dint in my Brooks plan with all that data and logic stuff.

I wouldn't own Brooks just for the shear fact I hate watching him IRL.

80 minute hooker (the same as every game he started last season)
The hope is an average of somewhere close to the 65 that he managed last season, but anything 60+ justifies his spot as a season keeper who will play round 13, priced at just 54.

The ability to watch someone IRL is a huge criteria for me when selecting. Thats why i battle with a few players that are boom or bust, like Latrell, Peachy etc. Tapine is a player i love to watch but hat to watch as an owner.

Two tries and two try saves though....60 might be a safer estimate. Definitely 80 min at the Dragons? Or eased in after his injury? Anyone know how he looks?

Macca has always been super fit and committed to training, apparently he looked good at Broncos training.
Don't think he is any better at football though

A list of potential Rd 17 (non-origin*) keepers that I won't be starting with.
WFB: RTS
CTR: Graham, Burns, Marsters, Croker, Ramien, Aitken
HLF: Flanagan, Wighton, SJ, ARey
EDG: Tohu, Murray, Tevaga, Arrow, Radley
MID: Lolo, Kapow, Tauk, Tapine, AFB, Tevaga
HOK: Robson? Starling? (both rely on injury/role change to be relevant)
Point of this exercise? WFB & HOK options thin on the ground, so buy-low on uber-premos there whenever the opportunity arises. There might be a player or two in the other positions worth grabbing in the rd 13-17 period hoping to hold until the end. CTR is a shitfight as always and ideally get rd 13 starters and flip them to a Graham/Aitken type combo to maximise position.
Trying to be more sensible about bye planning this year, I'm usually like Matt and twist myself into knots trying to ensure a full lineup.
Resume lurking.
* I am not a selector, some of these guys could end up dead to me by representing their state at an inconvenient time for my fantasy needs.

His 2020 stats were so much better than his previous couple of years. By much more than just the 6-again rule changes would account for (although he does have some other good years further back in his history).
So it depends if you think that is sustainable going forward or not.
Best case you can get pretty close to Cook's scores for $130k less, with no origin.
Bad case is he is priced slightly over his output, but scores well enough that you just can't justify ditching him*
*AKA every time I've owned mCCullough in the past.

Does anyone like Tevaga? Priced at 51, long-term ave 58 starting at lock for 40+ mins, 61 if you bump that to 50+ mins.
I wouldn't be too surprised to see him start lock and play ~20 minutes at hooker to spell Egan in the early rounds as Tohu moves to the middle. I suppose just too risky trying to predict minutes in the Warriors forwards though?

I think I have a secret crush on the Titans this year. I am just so keen to see how they go this year and excited to see them hopefully enter the finals for the first time since 2016 and 4th time out of their 15 active seasons.
If they can keep that squad together and pick up a few experienced travellers over the next few years they could see a handful of successful years ahead.
