I don't care if his historical scoring is not great, if Lachlan Croker is starting hooker, I'll have him in my 18-21

He'll play more than 41 minutes (his current maximum stint at hooker) and should clear well past 30 points a week. Fine for someone priced at 23.

I was trying to work out Crokers stats at hooker.

In 2020, off the interchange he has two poor scoring 70+ min games, but these were both replacing Dylan Walker getting injured inside 10 mins at 5/8.

I assume the shorter min bench games are mostly subbing Levi. You'd think if he starts, you can remove the sub-30 min appearances. So in the 30-50 mins range (really 30-41) he averages 35.4, which seems pretty encouraging as a hooker. Priced at 23. That's handy.

mtb's site tells you who subbed on for who, so you can eassily work out when he repalced Levi and when he didn't

You'll also notice that in round 18 last year, despite mtb saying he came off the bench, he started hooker with Levi on the bench, although their minute split was still in favour of Levi.

With no Levi (or other recognised hooker) he should be fine for large minute share. Cust being the main competition.

Ah good point, forgot about the Walker subs.

    Pretty big announcement:

    https://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/nrl-rule-changes-opens-door-to-mad-signing-frenzy/news-story/9a0c239d64c49acae983f90f743a2e8f

“The NRL have pushed the signing deadline back from June 30 to August 1,” Rothfield said.

“What this is going to do is start a mad signing frenzy at the back end of the season. So clubs can keep their salary cap and don’t have to fill their roster until Round 20.

“We’ll be arguing about Cameron Smith until August. It’s a move by the RLPA. Souths, Warriors, Cowboys, Raiders are the only teams with 30-man rosters at this stage.

“A lot of clubs are holding back. I spoke to Frank Ponissi at the Storm. Say something happens to Jahrome Hughes, he’s got $200,000 left in his cap that he can actually sign a $600,000 halfback from a club that’s out of business because it’s only paying him for the last five rounds.”

NRL 360 host Paul Kent responded to the rule change by describing it as “So open to corruption”.

The change means teams can sign star players late by only needing to pay a fraction of their salaries. The later the signing, the higher the amount players can earn per game with a move to a new club.

The NRL’s off-contract players in 2021 include: Cameron Smith, Shaun Johnson, Kotoni Staggs and Anthony Milford.

    yes and no

A based price player will still make money if they put up good scores, just not as quickly as with a higher magic number

A gun can maintain his previous average but will drop in price if the MN goes up too much

He has mainly been training on the edge, if he starts then the likely setup is him and Katoa, Tohu to 13 Jazz to the bench. That is the best pack they can put out.

But yeah Katoa out week one means we won't have certainty because I really doubt Katoa doesn't start when he comes back.

Also if Jazz ends up hooker the first couple of weeks that makes it unclear also.

Really gives me a Kenny Bromwich 2019 vibe, people stay away because others to come back from injury, whereas in reality he's there on merit.

Who would you be more scared to start without: Tino or Pap?

Currently I'm going back & forth between Tino + Isaako or Pap + Lodge.

I really don't know about the magic number, but last year for example, I missed a few of the best cows in round 1 and wasn't able to get them later. Had I replaced some guns with these few players just to see which cows were good buys, I could have then put the cash on the dud cows like Knight and Williams and possibly done better. That being said, I remember you saying that patience is necessary and that a few bad decisions don't determine your outcome for the season.

Allowing clubs that are out of finals contention to sell their off contract players to clubs in contention doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Only needs to be abused once and they'll change it straight back.

Just seems unlikely to be an issue to me. The date has only been moved by a month.

It lists Cameron Smith (lol), Staggs, Milford, and SJ. Those last three will have signed new deals somewhere before then. Milford may end up so bad this year that he isn't going to be resigned and some other club picks him up in August. If so, then so be it. (Milford doesn't want to leave Brisbane tho).

Staggs may leave Brisbane, but he will sign a new deal somewhere else for big dollars well before August.

Maybe you're right. I guess I don't really see the point in changing the date either. The NRL is fixated on changing things that don't really need to be changed.

I see Pap as likely to reach the Ponga and Teddy tier this season, plays round 13, no Origin. Makes him a definite season keeper if he performs as expected. Currently don't have Tino in my squad, despite the risk of him doing well. Lots of alternatives in his position that have a better chance of making the jump to gun status MID.

He's been trumpeted as a big signing so I'm expecting we see a bit of him. Brown said he's been training on the edge mainly, that he can play edge or middle, but that he offers more strike being on the edge.

Warriors are actually going to have a pretty strong, good pack for the first time in like 10 years. AFB, LAM, BMM, Katoa, Tohu, that's a handful.

That's a great pack, and it includes Jazz who I rate. If they could find a rake there'd be few better packs (eels? raiders? storm?)

Thinking of starting the year out on the rat fink path by sitting Doueihi in my 3rd WFB spot round 1 and having a bit of a look at how my bench WFBs score.

Wondering if the decision to move Dearden from 7, may be because they need a quality back up for Turpin on the bench. They played well when he was on the field and fell apart when he left.
