Not one of that 2-5 puts in work coming out of their own end, which is where origin is won and lost. Looks flashy on paper but that back 5 gets completely blown off the park

Assuming you want to keep a back 3 of Teddy/Fox/Turbo you need someone like Best, Cotric, Fergo at centre to do the tough stuff. Much prefer Turbo at centre so you can pick one of Cotric, Fergo, Tupou, Mansour on the wing to take those 20 hit ups coming out of trouble

I'm more just looking for reasons not to pick Croker.

Transport yourself back to round 1 2018 and pick him up...only to be seriously underwhelmed.
You will then develop 'past performance bias' remembering that he provided you with a whole bunch of meh and you will never, ever pick him again, even if he is starting hooker and the stats prove otherwise (see also Andrew McCullough)
....recounting this theory for a mate

Edit : The McCullough thing is because I my mate picked up AM9 for all of his 45-55 scores and none of his outlier 80's. Whereas with someone like Latrell I my mate had him for both great disappointments but also great celebrations so is happy to go back. Past performance bias can be a positive bias as well as a negative Laughing

At his peak he was probably the best tackling half in the comp. That was many injuries ago so not sure if the body would hold up, but he has the precedent to do it

I agree, however him being the clear captaincy option makes all the difference imo. If you don't start with him and he has some good early scores with high captaincy then you are likely falling behind. Whereas if it was like the start of last season with Haas the clear captain option then I'd be more for starting without Cleary.

    Definatly agree with this.

It's also good to have a set and forget captain like Cleary. Personally last year I would have only put the C on Cleary, Hass or CM9 and not have to worry about it.

Canberra Raiders Captain Jarrod Croker has been given the all-clear to resume full squad training, after meeting with his surgeon and being assessed by club medical staff.

Croker has been training with the squad for the past few weeks, but can now participate in all of the contact sessions. A decision on his availability for round one will be made closer to the game after he has completed some upcoming training sessions.

Also, James Tedesco still gets nervous about something: Goalkicking.

He hasn’t kicked since he was a kid but looks like Tedesco will take the kicking tee for the Roosters this year when Siosuia Taukeiaho is off the field. #NRL

Yeah I would run the following backline

    Teddy
    Fox
    Turbo
    Lomax
    Tupou
    Wighton
    Cleary

That team has three huge aerial threats (Tupou, Lomax, Turbo) and Tupou is also great at coming out of his own end.

Turbo's hammies have still gotta hold up to make it to the team. Would they play Gutho there again?

Sounds like Brooks is going to play both sides of the field
"The way we're going to play is having that traditional halfback and not having it split left and right.

"I think that's when I play my best footy. I've looked at deception stuff and playing around the ball … coming up with ways to trying to outsmart the defence."

I'm considering TPJ. Anyone got any inklings of the number of minutes he'd get?

Actually, I'm clutching for straws for guns in MID. Crichton is the only top tier one I have confidence in. I don't like the idea of running too many mid-rangers there.

I just looked at TPJ's stats and he can score pretty averagely in 80 min.

It's a problem alright but 1 way to mitigate this is to pick big Tino as he's the no. 1 pick atm so if he bombs it's no problem. Then go for a gut feel on the 3rd mid. So I have Angus, Tino & Watson

Can’t go wrong with these three tbh.

    You are in a league.

Mods have divvied up league creation and not everyone has got around to creating their league yet. It should be coming soon
