Surely Barba gets the fullback gig. Holmes is a gun with ice in his veins, but even RTS wasn't up to fullback at 20 years of age.

You can't leave Holmes on the wing surely.

Id be thinking with 8 interchanges Frizell/Thompson will play 80, then we might see Packer off at 20 Cooper on, AhMau off at 30 Creagh on, JDB of at 55 AhMau on, Cooper off at 60 Packer on, Creagh off at 65 Lui/JDB on. Leaves 2 for hooker and 1 for injury.
JDB 55min-70min
AhMau 55min
Cooper 40min
Creagh 35min
I think a lot of teams will have a similar breakdown with a bit of varying times on interchange, Think we may see a lot of 0min 17th man this year.
Cooper had more minutes than Ah Mau in 20/23 games they played together. Of the 3 games he played less minutes it was by a combined 10 minutes across 3 games. Cooper is still the main man in that pack

I saw Suttons body shape at the nines & he looks overweight & not that fit. I doubt he could play 80.

Maybe they think the best place for Holmes right now is the wing and I can see where they're coming from. He can score tries that their other options like Beale, Brown or Gagan perhaps couldn't with his speed and insane put-down ability.
If Barba's in good form they'd be wasting him on the bench and the fact Jack Bird was even thrown into the mix for the fullback position kind of says they don't think Holmes is a big stand-out choice for the custodian role.

agree here, he might be the best fit for the FB role but it forces lesser players into other spots so the overall backline dynamic becomes worse
Bird will murder people one on one in space playing CTR, and you don't want to use a reduced interchange on a 20 minute backline utility IMO so Barba beter suited to the FB role in that respect. I think Bird would kill it at FB also but better overall backline in option 1 i think
Barba FB, Holmes wing, Bird CTR
Holmes FB, Gagan/Feki wing, Bird CTR
Bird FB, Holmes Gagan/Feki wings, Ricky L CTR

I think the price tag of Barba is clouding peoples judgment. Holmes is an out and out gun. Barba is expendable to the Sharks. Jack Bird was thrown around as an option before he resigned I think to make him think he had even more value to the Sharks than he does. Ever since he resigned with them that talk has gone cold.
I would be very surprised if Holmes isn't the FB come round 1 and stays that way for the full year.

I think Barba at FB and Holmes wing >> Holmes FB and Gagan wing
no arguing Holmes is a gun but team dynamic is just as important
Jack Bird is main man in the sharkies backline no doubt!

oh yeah team balance is vital but I think Holmes at fullback is a must. You've got balance in the rest of the squad. Barba if he was the Bulldogs Barba then yeah for sure but he's not anymore. Holmes is the future.. and the future is now.

I'd say RTS would have well and truly been up to it he just didn't get the opportunity.Mr Fernando wrote:Surely Barba gets the fullback gig. Holmes is a gun with ice in his veins, but even RTS wasn't up to fullback at 20 years of age.

Re: 2016 NRL.com Fantasy Thread Part 5
Have never been aboard the Gun half then 3 cashie halves, have been much more inclined towards going 1 Gun half (DCE) and a solid mid ranger with potential (JRey) but due to the lack of basement price second row forwards and more options in the halves where it is also easier for a rookie to score well, i have decided to invest in JReys cash into a $300k second rower who can potentially match Jrey (40-45) and hope JNiki gets named and strings together some half decent scores and make somes cash
sound enough logic?

Re: 2016 NRL.com Fantasy Thread Part 5
Looks as though either Greg Eden or Tom Opacic will be the round 1 bolter for the Broncoes on the wing, with Greg Eden tipped.
Also Curtis Scott may be in line for fullback at the start of the year, then hopefully wing. Apparently Billy and Munster are racing the clock to be fit in time.
