I read Josh Alolai was double vaxed wasn't due back till mid December and hasn't had face to face contact with any team members. Apparently Joey Leilua has been training with him

Yeah Leilua was training with Alolai. He was gonna fight Heighington on the undercard, who I guess was training with Gallen?
Wouldn't surprise we if he was vaxxed, it doesn't stop you catching it entirely and there are ~200 cases a day in NSW still. Just didn't see it confirmed or no in the article I read.

As much as I dislike PVL, I agree with what he said re vaxxed players, and 95% being "good enough". No fit athlete is going to have a problem with COVID.
I am all for getting vaxxed, am double vaxxed myself, but don't see the sense in locking unvaccinated people out of society when the overall vax rates are so high

Misread the news. He's off contract and signed for 23 but the usual media beat up about early release. But does make Blore an obvious pick

Everywhere reporting Mahoney has signed with the Bulldogs.I take 1 of 2 things from this
1. The following players are off contract at the end of 2022 and wont be re-signed Vaughn (?), Stimson, Topine, Duffy, Katoa, King, Doorey, RFM
or
2. They have rehired their 2002 accountant (I stole this option but made me LOL)

A busy day yesterday with the Mahoney signing news (rumoured 4 years @ $600k/yr)
Additionally;
Christian Welch has extended with the Storm (3 years through to 2025)
Pat Carrigan has extended with the Broncos (2 years through to 2024)
Both Carrigan and Welsh were believed to be strongly sought after by the Dolphins.
Jayden Sullivan has extended with the Dragons (3 years through to 2025)
Dylan Napa will join Mitchell Pearce at the Catalan Dragons (2 year contract)

Interestingly the DT put together a Bulldogs summary for 2023 based on consulting "recruitment managers and player agents before arriving at salary estimates" - I hope it's okay for me to quote this...
I've adjusted it to include Reed Mahoney;
- DT Figures:
- DT wrote:
Viliame Kikau - $850,000
Luke Thompson - $800,000
Tevita Pangai Junior - $720,000
Josh Jackson - $670,000
Nick Cotric - $650,000
Reed Mahoney - $600,000*
Kyle Flanagan - $600,000
Josh Addo-Carr - $550,000
Matt Burton - $500,000
Corey Allan - $500,000
Jack Hetherington - $450,000
Corey Waddell - $350,000
Jake Averillo - $300,000
Jeremy Marshall-King - $300,000
Braidon Burns - $250,000
Brent Naden - $250,000
Paul Alamoti - $250,000
Jayden Okunbor - $220,000
Aaron Schoupp - $150,000
Bailey Biondi-Odo - $150,000
Ava Seumanufagai - $120,000
Josh Cook - $120,000
Chris Patolo - $100,000
TOTAL - $9.45* million for 23* players
- NRL squads must have 30 players
- Estimated NRL salary cap in 2023 is $10 million
That leaves $550k* for seven* players (minimum NRL wage is $120,000 for top 26 players, $80,000 for bottom four players)
So, deducting $320k for the bottom 4 players would leave $230k for 3 players - i.e. they would have to shift someone to stay under the cap.
Generally, the numbers seem fairly plausible and there's already rumours of Cotric heading back to Canberra for example (which even if they took some of his salary loading, would free up enough to stay within cap), not to mention you'd imagine they may be keen to move Flanagan on.
To keep someone like Vaughan they may have to shift Thompson (which has been rumoured on multiple occasions), or shift Allan to keep Dufty.

And those figures look to be rounded to the closest $50K there would be some fat in there. Like you said, it adds up they may have to move on 1 person.

I think this recruitment drive can be done in the cap, more shocked they’re capable of doing it.

They've definitely made some good signings - they probably have enough there to turn into a decent team, whether they do become that or not (and whether Trent Barrett can hone them into a good unit) is still unknown.
If I were some other clubs (*cough Tigers) I'd be looking at whether there's opportunities to grab some of their best young talent that have been less of a priority
Anyway, in other news, the Dolphins finally have their first significant NRL signing:

Where is the overs for average players than other bad Sydney teams need to do?
Barrett must be admired as a coach even without the results to show for it yet

And the off season bad behaviour begins.
The Melbourne Storm stood down forward Tui Kamikamica on Friday after he was charged over an alleged incident involving a woman outside a Brisbane hotel.
In a statement, the Storm said they were made aware of the charges on Thursday afternoon and immediately advised the NRL Integrity Unit.
“Due to the seriousness of the allegations, the club made the decision to stand down Kamikamica, pending his plea in response to the allegations, the NRL Integrity Unit investigation and the club concluding a formal, in-person interview with Kamikamica, who remains out of state. This will take place next week,” the Storm said in a statement.
“Storm believes firmly that there is no place in the game or society for violence against women at any time, in any circumstance.
“The club will not make further comment until it has been advised of Kamikamica’s plea and
conducted further enquiries.”

The club investigation won’t be able to ascertain if it was woman or say, a tall shrub, just like they couldn’t tell if a white powder was cocaine or say, sherbet.

Brandon Smith has reportedly informed clubs chasing his signature that he will be signing with the Sydney Roosters for 2023 - also indicating on a YKTR episode that he wants to win a premiership in the Roosters jersey.
He said he liked that the Roosters will set you up for life, and that Aubbo almost made him cry.
Meanwhile, Joseph Manu has also extended for 2 years with the Roosters (to 2024)

Everyone knows that a salary cap compliant wage from the Roosters will set you up for life much better than a salary cap compliant wage from any of the other teams
