On one hand we’ve got people saying NAS is a buy because of the loss of middles in Melbourne and on the other we have people wanting to buy him because dangerous running on an edge?

10 points is the goal. Naturally, if you can't find 10 points of value you move down the bench until you find the next best option.my tv broke wrote:

Which of course thats ideal but it doesnt really work out that way
But as camo pointed out in all his wisdom (must be the ice on the noggin), it's based around having 17 guns and a couple of serviceable lads come end of season (if you're to win it). Most of us fall short but 10 points of value is a nice simple measuring stick to begin crafting the team.

He can bust a ton of tackles even in the middle, I have never thought for a moment that he'd get the edge spot given how many edges we have.

NAS will get murdered defensively on the edge, way too big, to be defending out there

How much edge did he play last season? I have no idea. He was never named to start there but i realise last minute changes are standard bellamy.
15 mins here and there ?

I love the pre-season of fantasy. I see it as one big puzzle and I like puzzles.
I get torn between the best team I can make with all the cash and the best team I can make while holding some in the bank.

For Storm players to start the year with. 4 interesting me are...
Grant - locked and loaded, big scores expected.
Katoa/Loiero - Sims back round 2 so who the best pick?
Warbrick - won't everyone have him if starts round 1 with the backline injuries?

Nrl.com updated potential team lists and looks quite good. If stone starts at lock and Gilbert frf would be great.

Rothfield:
The Sydney Roosters are in talks with the Newcastle Knights to get an immediate release for English winger Dominic Young to play in the opening round of the premiership against the Dolphins.
News Corp can reveal the Knights have asked to swap the English Test winger for a Roosters forward.
The Knights were keen on either Nat or Egan Butcher, which the Roosters have rejected.
There is now talk of the Roosters offering compensation with a transfer fee.
The Roosters signed wingers Corey Allan from the Bulldogs and Jaxson Paulo from the Rabbitohs during the off-season.
However they are desperately keen to add Young to their roster.
Young signed with the Roosters earlier this week from 2024 onwards.
He said he was committed to playing out his final year for the Knights before the two clubs began negotiations for a swap.

Personally think it's a simplification, and you're bang on that it doesn't tend to ultimately work that way.
Just a few thoughts:
10 points of value target was based on 32? available trades.
Of which only a proportion of which were designated as cash accumulation trades (some trades will be assembling final squad/cashouts where you don't expect to make much/ any money).
Now there are 44? trades, it's fair to suggest that a few more will be used for both bye/ injury navigation while being used for cash accumulation. But the top end final squad target remains similar, so with more trades that 10 points target isn't necessarily as high.
When we've had elite cows like Haas/Grant et al that make $400/500k+, it reduces that target somewhat. These often aren't available round 1 - it remains to be seen if 2023 will deliver a new fantasy star.
Not everyone will perform to our hoped for anticipations.
In some ways it's equally important to reduce the mares that stall, make minimal cash or even lose money.
So it's arguable a player that is very likely to make 7 or 8 points of value (whilst being playable), is maybe a better option than a player who may make that 10 points of value if a certain projected story comes to fruition...
Certainly a player that improves by 7 points ($100k) but does it quickly may be a better option than a player who grinds his way to $150k, but doesn't get there until mid season IMO

Can see him still starting lock and then pushing either to an edge or frf. As Ray Stone gets fitter then who knows.

It's interesting that in a salary restricted game, a small club with rich owners are able to assemble an elite squad by picking up stars from larger but poorer clubs.
Conspiracy theories aside (but not far aside), it seems a good demonstration of the importance of aligning your operation with what players want in their short careers; profile, culture, prizes all seem to matter greatly.
And brown paper bags of course. But culture too.
