Fwiw, I read a comment couple nights ago when I was googling all this shit, as you do.

And while it doesnt effect you right now, obviously it will in the future, sadly.

The comment basically said "It's better to do it a day early, than a day late" - So that's given me a bit of positivity, that it's the right time

Just do what you feel is best man. No correct answer here. But go for a walk for an hour or so might be a good way to clear your head and not feel too guilty for being out too long. Stretch the legs get some sun, low key exercise always good for the soul

If it we me id probably try organise some social stuff for after Tuesday to help take your mind off things

Hey mate, sorry to hear... I remember Ur stories of chasing him down the street that time, and how it made me ask you about him a few times over the years... he's had an impact on the forum Very Happy
Just think of the gud life you gave him, and the memories, he'd appreciate the care and let u know if he could speak.
U can be their for the putting to sleep process if u want, some people prefer that.

Yeah it's tough, to make matters worse I'm kinda counting the hours down as well which I know isn't helping things.

He's got 3 more nights left, that sounds a lot better than 60 odd hours so I'm trying to think of it that way Smile

Finch and Rabs, I’m sorry to hear about your pets. They become family members and no matter how long they’re with us, it sucks and it hurts and I know exactly the feeling. We just had to put down our young bird, Pete.

Pete was a RSPCA adoption and companion for our other bird, Roland(who was my Covid buddy when I lost my job at the time because the company I worked at decided to shut down). A few weeks ago, a cancerous tumor was discovered on little Pete Pete’s wing joint, and we really didn’t have an option. Spend thousands on chemo and whatnots and be unsure of a success and Pete wouldn’t have the greatest quality of life, or have the wing amputated and have a poor quality of life, and to us, it wasn’t fair, so we left the bird vet knowing his time would be coming soon.

That time this past Friday, when we had to let Pete go. Roland, was a pet shop bird and didn’t know much about how to act “normally” I guess. But, when we introduced him to Pete, he began stripping bark off of tree branches and going for baths in their fountain and other things that birds do. I thought and still believe that Pete’s purpose was not to bring happy memories to our lives, but to teach Roland how to be a bird.

It was extremely heartbreaking to see his eyes close for the final time and his tiny feet spasm as his body shut down.

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves may be available to play Round 1 next season for the Sydney Roosters despite still having four matches of his ban to serve.

While the NRL are yet to confirm the request from the Roosters, on backing of a letter from the New Zealand Rugby League who confirmed he would have been selected if not suspended, it's believed the request will be approved by the NRL.

Of the seven-match ban, Waerea-Hargreaves served three of the games for the Roosters, who made the semi-finals, and if the Kiwis make the final of the Pacific Cup that gets underway this weekend, then would have another three matches shaved off.

Hey @finch just popped in today and saw your post. Feel for you dude.

It's super hard to let go of pets particularly when they have been a part of your life for such a long time (My previous cat lived to 17.5 before she got hit by a car crossing the road while mostly blind and deaf...which was typical renegade behaviour). Enjoy the last couple of days and know that you are doing the right thing making the end very comfortable for him.

Just try swing the thoughts the positive way, you would have much rather had him than not, it's just a part of life, loss. Can't take the memories away, the bond.

Thanks folks, and firstly I hope Rabs is doing ok as well.

Still feeling down about it all of course, just over 14 hours to go now, absolutely brutal. Right now I'm feeling "okay" - Trying to distract myself watching some Youtube and what not. Cat is sleeping in his new favourite box in a wardrobe which has a cushion in it. He's still eating/drinking/toileting, despite all this drama he has never gone inside on the carpet, he is extremely well behaved. He kinda lays on the floor now sometimes since yesterday, can tell 100% he isn't right obviously. He went outside today as well, I made sure he had one last stroll around outside, he wasn't too interested in that though, but spent 30 or so mins outside.

Still can't believe he's going tomorrow, like it's just crazy. I thought he would be around forever, never thought about losing him. To me it feels like he's just a bit sick right now, but in a few days he'll be feeling better and back into normal routine, but nope.

Took lots of photos today as well and will try take a few more tomorrow as well. Hopefully can get a better one of him and I.

You’re in my thoughts today mate please know that. It’s going to hurt that’s for sure and be an adjustment to your life. Do not hold the emotion in let out as much out as you need. Treasure all those photos too and hopefully you have a few short videos.

I think mate upcoming to you should try go for a holiday maybe in the new year you deserve it.  If Silky doesn’t make it to new year I think I’ll be going away for a holiday with my Mum, Aunty and Sister to QLD probs Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise.

Next couple of years too if not 2024, then 2025 or 26 I definitely wanna do magic round. Just need to hope a mate is free to come with me.

I’m trying to tell myself when Silky goes as hard as it is and I’ll be grieving for weeks and weeks on end that there is life after that.

Thanks everyone, thanks for all the kind and supportive words.

So yesterday was the day, it was brutal.

I'm absolutely devastated. He went around 12:15 yesterday, I'd say pretty much exactly then judging by pictures. I kinda believe yesterday the reason Wellington dropped by 4 degrees between 12-1 was because he left us.

It was brutal. We of course said our final goodbyes and everything, made sure to hold him even before the vets arrived and placed him on his table to eat one final time (He hadn't been there for almost 2 weeks now, couldn't get there I guess). Took him out on Monday for a final walk outside and what not, made sure he got the smell the fresh air again yesterday too while holding him. Took lots of photos and a few videos.

I didn't realise how quick it was going to be, he was gone in literally 2 seconds, I thought it would be 5 minutes thing slowly drift off. Vet said he was ready to go judging by the amount of whatever it's called she put in him, it wasn't much. She put the stuff in him, he slowly dropped to the ground and that was it. 2 seconds and gone. Cats don't have eyelids like us so his eyes stayed open, I had to ask if he was actually gone or not because he was just staring at me. I made sure to put my face in front of him, so I was the last thing he saw while it was happening and told him I loved him and he was my best friend, albeit for a couple seconds before he went.

It sucks. I want him back but I know it's not possible. We had a routine and habits we both did, none of that will be happening now.

It's hitting me harder today than yesterday.

    Damn.

Hey @Finch, I'm really sorry, mate, it's such a hard time to go through and those that touch our lives leave such a big hole.
I know exactly what you mean about the sudden loss of routines and habits - I lost my pet cat earlier this year in April, she was with us for 20 years and even though six months have passed, it still feels pretty raw. Her coat was mostly black, so for many weeks I'd catch these black objects in the corner of my eye and think they were her. It takes time to adjust to the loss.

In many ways I think it's our shared grief that truly connects us as people, life can be so fragile, that it makes it so very important to celebrate each moment you spend with the people/creatures you care for, and to try and find a smile (amongst the tears) for those that have left us.

Be kind and patient with yourself, and talk/share where you can.

Great to see players are going that extra mile in the off season to ensure it isn't just train the house down stories.

Amone might be set for a spell in the big house for that (although the article was confusing with his dad having the same name)....all over a parking dispute ffs
