I would expect it is still likely recorded as an error, like kicking the ball out on the full in general play.

That would make sense (mark Latrell's average down by around eight points a week)

In the only change to the game's rules for the 2024 season, teams will no longer cop a penalty when a kick restart fails to go 10 metres or enters touch on the full.

Instead, the receiving team will be given a play-the-ball 10 metres out from the line of the kick and 10 metres in from touch.

The rule change comes after a significant increase in the amount of short droputs in recent seasons, leading to more contested possessions.

I think this pushes the risk/reward factor too far towards the kicking team. If you mess up a short drop out worst case scenario you get to defend with a set line in the easiest spot on the field. Refs will need to be on top of repeated infringements around the goal line to even the odds

    R1: Tigers (Fainu?)
    R2: Titans (Campbell)
    R3: Dolphins (JMK)
    R4: Storm (Grant, Papenhuyzen, Blore)
    R5: Sharks (Hynes, Iro?)
    R6: Panthers (Cleary)
    R7: Souths (Murray, Tatola, Munro?)
    R8: Dogs (Curran, Knight, Hughes?)

If anyone has 3 Dogs in their team by round 8 something has gone horribly wrong

Is that really more fantasy relevant players with early byes that last year?

Last season Roosters had a bye where the Storm does , and I’d say the average was 3 Roosters per team. Clearys bye was even earlier. The rest of the early bye teams look very manageable IMO

with a lot of the top teams with early byes it may pay to have at least 1 emg that is decent instead of a 250k basement price player. this for me was 1 of the takeaways from last season you need stronger depth for the players on a bye.

Teddy, Egan Butcher and BSmith were popular but most sold the last 2 before bye due to being shit and injury respectively

With 2 underpriced WFBs on bye you definitely need serviceable WFB cover

The byes last year early on were:
    R1: Dragons (Sloan/BMM looper)
R2: Sea Eagles (barely any owned Turbo/DCE)
R3: Panthers (Cleary, Garner mostly sold after poor R1)
    R4: Roosters (as above)
R5: Titans (Boyd sold by some, Fifita)
R6: Sharks (Hynes not really owned due to injury)

makes little sense to do anything but a short drop out with that change.

Looks like there may be four spots up for grabs for the raiders come round 1, with four cheapies a decent chance to get those spots (Weekes, Strange, Cotric, Stewart) - problem is it's a new backline in team that didn't do so well last year. I fear those cheapies might get 20pt or less averages.

I'm giving weekes & cotric a miss have strange & stewart...i think strange if he starts standoff would be the only 1 that would play at full strength...even then a couple of bad games from strange could see him dropped esp if the team isn't winning.

Kris will take spot once suspension ends which I think is R2 but could even be available R1

Cotric might get spot over Hopoate but you couldn’t be sure

Yep. That sounds like slim pickings at the raiders.
