Mahoney has sucked me in the last few seasons scoring 60s for 2-3 games then reverting to 30s and 40s. It was a painful experience watching him slip off of tackles so I'll do my best to avoid him this year. But I could see why someone would be tempted at a 580k price tag.

@rabbits21 could we get some measured analysis on the contents of this article please?

If he's decided to swap to the Damien Cook 'stand up and catch' technique then we can talk.

i heard a stat that mahoney was the top missed tackler in 2023 & the majority were in the last quarter of games

Probably bending the narrative here a tad but looking at last year, he averaged 50 when playing 80 if you exclude his last two scores of 24 and 15 (assume he was burnt out or fed up). Will the Dogs be slight improvers this year with Mahoney potentially the beneficiary? Dogs play the first two major bye rounds as well

In my squad. I assume he will have slightly less missed tackles in a slightly better Dogs team

Reed Mahoney missed tackle avg over the years

I feel like Suualli starts for Roosters because he’s one of their 5 best outside backs and teams like to win footy games which is usually easier when you pick your best players.

But at the same time the Roosters are the one club I can see as well governed / petty enough to banish a talent to reserves for having the audacity to sign elsewhere for more money.

I mean it must sting after signing him as a teenager from elsewhere for more money

Also the Wallabies are the one entity I could see signing a reserve grader for seven figures, so both ends of the story tie together nicely.

This could lead to some trouble when the rest of the teams are named. If you tied up all your cap in Vegas players then the players you want don't get named it could mean a scramble to a bunch of players noone wants

I can see people loading up on expensive players and leaving cheap placeholders at CTR that may not eventuate, leaving some awkward holes.

A lot of the gun MIDs have ?

    Haas (priced 64):
Pros: No byes until Origin and good bye schedule throughout means you could keep whole season, Flegler leaving might mean extra mins, massive ceiling
Cons: Not really any value, may run less away from middle for easy TBs and offloads

    Yeo (priced 63)
Pros: Much more likely to play 80, solid bye schedule through Origin, very consistent
Cons: No massive ceiling so priced at value, early bye R6 which would mean 1.8m on bench

    Hopgood (priced 61):
Pros: Not guaranteed Origin, easily top 2 for EDG, undervalued if Brad Arthur isn’t talking shit
Cons: Teams will probably be aware to his offloads (pre-Origin had 4 games with 4+ offloads vs 1 post R12), lots of games with at least 1 of Matterson/Paulo/RCG out, bye schedule not ideal if selected from Origin 2 (would miss 3 of 5 then)

    JDB (priced 58)
Pros: Underpriced due to few bench games, very unlikely for Origin
Cons: New coach (saw video mentioning that Flanagan said JDB was playing too many mins when he was commentating last year).

Tino/AFB early bye for Tino, AFB career year for tries, too inconsistent anyway

    Murray (priced 58)
Pros: Was high 60s in 2022 (2023 lower mainly due to lower offloads, higher penalties and errors)
Cons: Awful bye schedule through Origin, Demetriou has said Murray could move to EDG to accommodate Duncan coming on, possibly tough R7 bye with Tatola option as well

Gday lads, been catching up over the last few days and starting to tinker.

Agree with Camo's summary of the gun mids. Murray I think would be my preference if ignoring bye schedule. JDB would be my next choice if his minutes were certain but I think there will be enough uncertainty there.

So very likely I'll end up going with the safety of Haas.

Yeah can see the appeal of Mahoney but not sure I can go there from the start, Bulldogs may well be just as bad as last season.

JMK I'm interested in if the funds work out and I don't run with any other Dolphins (HTF might be in my plans at CTR)

    Hi friends,
    Looking forward to the season.
On the Suaalii vs Smith Vs Tupou Vs Dom debate, here’s an argument that Suaalii is the odd man out.

Speaking of putting too much money into a shit position, anyone looking at Wighton for 532k?

Sure, he'll be suspended after trying to fight a Cher drag queen whilst pissing off the back of a weird ute-limousine after R1, but he could score a lot of points on the bunnies' left edge.

MattNZ might [possibly] be on to something with his 13 players playing 80 predictions.

Arthur set to unleash "new look" approach.

Will be all over him when he returns and gets CTR DPP but obviously not going to buy him for first 2 suspended games

    Welcome back!

Surprisingly compelling case put forward there. Interesting that Billy coming in coincided with a 5 game streak and that they lost more games than won with Suaali’i there.

Probably a fair compromise; the Roosters were likely just going to charter their own private jet, but the NRL stepped in with a ticketed airline compromise.
Roosters being good roosters - hats off to them
