Is he worth the reported 350k? No. Thats half there reason he is leaving the titans.

He is worth well and truely more than 150k though.

The Izzy rule, as far as the general public know, has only been used for him. Its been reported that recently may be used if foran signs for dirt with the warriors

Geez Pieman. As a Knights fan I know you're used to paying obscene amounts for fringe first grade wingers, but just because you do it for Uate doesn't mean everyone else does it. $150K would be a good buy, but $200K would be overpriced. It's close to the money. Meade won't have to relocate, and he knows that he is probably going to get more 3rd party deals in Brisbane and the Gold Coast than anywhere else.

Think about it, why would another club pay more than $150K for him? Meade is as good as he is ever going to be. For that money you can pay a young up and comer. They might not be as consistent as Meade (maybe the will be), and just maybe you'll be locking in someone who turns out as good as say Moylan, Inglis, Hoppa etc.

To put Dip's comments in perspective $150K is what Josh Addo-Carr signed with Melbourne for.

All I said was $150k is a steal for a bloke of his experience and talent, and as I said, there would be 20s players on more than 150k.

He is worth anywhere between 200-250k IMO. He has played 150fg games for fucks sake, and he is not one of the elite wingers but he is a very good one one. Its most likely 150k off the cap then they make up whatever downfall in TPA agreements anyway. Saying mead is only worth 150k though is laughable.

Got to love the old "He signed with my team so I will understate his $$ and ability" thing tho.

It's not the Knights where he would walk in and probably be appointed as Captain/Coach on the spot, it's the Broncos Pieman for fucks sake.

He'll be lucky to make our feeder side and is just lucky we are generous and have a war chest of legitimate salary cap available to spend on players.

Fair enough, though personally I don't really think wingers would get paid that much bar for a select few (Radradra, Morris etc), though in fairness, Mead is also a fullback. Thought it was one of those "how can the Broncos afford him" type posts. If we're going with the understate his price and ability thing, then my first reply would be that since we're losing an England international centre, we could probably afford 2 Mead's. That's how it's done isn't it?

And that's before we factor in losing one of the premier forwards in the game to retirement.

Third Party Deals for David Fucking Mead?????? Seriously, this is where the whole thing is an utter joke. What self respecting business is forking out any more than a Free Big Mac Meal or a Mrs Macs Meat Pie and a Chocolate Dare Drink for David Fucking Mead?? He isn't getting any 3rd Parties and he has gone from $300k plus at the Titans to $150 at the Broncos, he has a career best year and we are expected to accept his fair value has dropped 50%. Please.

David Mead is just an average winger. Definitely not worth more then $150k and no way in hell is he worth $200k+. Not many wingers are worth that sort of money (only a handful if that) and Bennett has never been one to pay big bucks for that position either. If he was on $300k at the Titans then he sure pulled the wool over their eyes!

Would have thought $200k, or just over. But..., you can see the possible logic though.

You'd imagine the thought process goes something like..... "Titans aren't going to keep me on big coin. No one else is going to give me $300+. If the Broncs go well next year, and jag a premiership, that's going to look good on the resume for the year after"

He's 27, if it all lines up for him next year, his next contract is going to be better, and longer.

Not really worth any outrage there, Mr Ice? If it's unders, it's not huge unders.

I was only outraged at the suggestion that he would be getting 3rd Party sponsorship to bump him up to his "True Worth" whatever that is.

I don't claim Bris can't afford him in their cap at $150k, of course they could afford that, and I always say a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay and what the player is willing to accept and I don't think the NRL has the right to interfere with that, like they did with the Izzy thing.

It's Brisbane mate. Ben Te'o was a weekly feature on one of the most popular radio stations. I saw a bit of his work, and it wasn't because of his flair for the media.

I'm not saying Nike are going to pay him $300K, but a few gigs on radio, appearing at a car yard, hardware store opening or corporate golf day, each which might pay a few hundred a pop, and before you know it you might be able to add another $25K to your salary. Up here where corporates basically only want to know you if you play for the Broncos or are an international cricketer and there's only basically 20-25 of them in a city of 2 million, you can get a bit of that. Down in Sydney or Melbourne there might be 200+ players across the various sports competing for the same corporate dollar.

Totally disagree with you. He is not an average winger - he is very good winger. He is also a good fill in fullback.

Just over 200k IMO is where his value sits.

If they signed him for 150k, its a fucking steal.

Hope Bennett gets through his personal problems alright, would be pretty hard to focus on finals football and going through a separation at the same time. Shows what the guy is made of to put on a brave face.
