You cruel bastard......and so much for striving for that coveted 'Softcock of the Year' award.
Next thing you'll be suggesting Steve Michaels as a potential replacement for poor old Jack Reed!

Yeah - probably the burn he suffered here?

it was announced last night, that we got Mead for 2017, wil be interesting to see how that will re-arrange our team... i doubt he's coming across to play second-string, so maybe something like Glenn to lock, Oates to bench second-rower, Mead to wing?

No way is Mead ahead of Oates for the wing. Not sure where he fit in though.

Isnt it obvious that its Oates and Mead on the wings with Roberts and Kahu in the centes?

Nope. Tommy O and Jonus P fighting for spots.

Well maybe Gillett is leaving and Oates is making his way into the pack, thats what I reckon the backline will look like

You'd think. But we've also got Tom Opacic, Jonus Pearson, Carlin Anderson pushing into the top grade (the first two of which have done a fair job at the business end of the season, i'm happy to say!). Even Whitchurch is still ont he books somewhere, but obviously out of favour atm.
Still - we did just lose Reed, Eden and Maranta from the squad, and we ran into depth problems due to injury and rep duties this season, so it's not as left field as I'd originally thought. Probably not on huge dollars?
Question - did he play outside Jimmy the Jet much when they were at the Titans together?

Yep he did.
It's a great signing.
Yeah we've got blokes coming through the ranks (been super impressed with Pearson and Opacic in particular) but it's outside backs and they are a fragile as all fuck.

I dont think that he played outside him all that much at the titans. Anthony don has been the right winger for quite a while now, and will zillman out injured a lot, Mead played fullback and left wing quite a bit.
In saying that, a pairing of Roberts and Mead is quite dangerous. They dont have much size but they are both pretty quick and strong.

I guess Gillett should thank Reed for retiring?

More NZ Warriors news really (but nobody cares about them)....so we've lost Kearney to the Warriors.
Sounds like a good move by them to retain McFadden as an assistant (always appeared like the players were disappointed they let him down) and I rate Kearney.

Kearney has certainly done a good apprenticeship after his disaster run at Parra.
Will be interesting to see how he goes. Personally, I think it is the perfect appointment as the coach of the Warriors.

Doesn't seem too unreasonable for a bloke that can't make a starting 17 for a side that wouldn't have even made the finals this year if Parra weren't stripped of points......
Honestly, has anyone heard of this nominal contract value actually being applied to anyone other than Izzy?
I would have thought it would be pretty easy for clubs to get around the issue by explaining the many other factors which contribute to the market value they are offering.
And in hindsight (taking into account the blatant salary cap rorting we now know), the ruling on Izzy was probably spot on.

mead was talking to 4 or 5 clubs, him taking 150k with no guarantee of a starting spot may have been his best offer and is probably his market value
remember pieman, he is still just a winger and not one of the elite one's
still a good get tho, reliable player on a modest wage, even if he doesn't make the top 17 originally, injuries/origin happen.

For a quality winger and really good cover fullback who has played 150 NRL games, - 150 is a fucking steal. There would be blokes in the 20's on more money than that.
Is he worth the reported 350k? No. Thats half there reason he is leaving the titans.
He is worth well and truely more than 150k though.
The Izzy rule, as far as the general public know, has only been used for him. Its been reported that recently may be used if foran signs for dirt with the warriors

Didn't they do the same (may not have used the same terminology) to Sam Burgess ??
